Don't know if this qualifies as an 'unexpected use of the Vega' as I'm surprised no one has posted about this yet... But anyway, here it goes: I use my Vega to keep my coffee and coco nice and warm! To achieve this, I created an app that overclocks a certain area on the screen up to 3Ghz so it heats up... Note: this can only be done on TEGRA 2 devices, as it uses a graphical CPU (by NVIDIA)... I might post the app later too, but at this point I still have some trouble getting it to heat both area's at the same time, using a different temperature for each area... Also I would like to build in an audible warning signal while it's hot... [EDIT: Mar 11 2011] Because there's no way to get feedback on the screen area's temperature it's not possible to sound a warning signal as long as it's hot... Therefore I had to create a formula that, based on the overclocking speed, estimates the temperature of the screen area and (assuming the rooms temperature is about 20 Celsius /68 Fahrenheit) calculates the cooling down time... During the cooling down time you hear the warning signal... It's far form perfect, but it's something... Next step is to tweak the functionality so I can boil an egg on it... (haven't reached boiling temperature just yet, but I'm getting close! [/EDIT] Here's a picture of the app in use... (Sorry, but the lighting in here is not optimal for taking pictures, so I had to darken the picture afterwards...) For those asking: The case you see is a Toshiba Folio case, which fits quite nicely! When I close the case it keeps me from burning my hands too! [EDIT: Mar 15 2011] Sorry, no release of the app just yet... Decided to extend it's functionality a bit with two or three more heating apps before releasing it: -Radiator: using a wall mount to spread some heat around your room -(Smoothing) iron: for ironing shirts, pants, etc. (watch the buttons!) -Bed warmer/Hot water bottle: warm your bed, before you go to sleep Will try to update with some pictures soon... Can you please post your science behind "over-clocking" specific areas of the screen please. Gave a bit of a mess and took some time, but it was fun watching it... To answer your question: I believe there aren't that much wires inside... And as it uses the touch sensitive part of the screen (which is almost the topmost layer) it direct the heat outwards... This should be safe to use... [EDIT] Please have a look at this picture. I know this is for the iPod, but it gives you an idea of how the display is built... With 'the touch sensitive part of the screen' I mean what's referred to as the Transparent Electrode Layer in the picture... Thanks to user Restless_UK for the image...
