How was the kernel source for this device obtained?

I'm trying to get a grasp of GPL compliance of various Android tablets on the market

I noticed that you guys have a working kernel tree for this device.

Did it ship with a .config? I also read somewhere that this device can be compile straight from the AOSP provided kernel source. How accurate is this, if it is accurate at all?
