Screen model for Vega?

Hi all

As some of you may already know, I pretty much stood on my Vega and cracked the screen. I'm pretty certain it is just the display that is broken. The touch digitizer appears to work fine. I'm now thinking about trying to fix it myself. I've seen the G Tab which I *think* is the same device as the Vega uses an AU B101AW06 1024x600 netbook screen. Can anyone confirm this is what the Vega uses? If so then they are readily available on eBay for less than £50.

Thanks in advance

I saw a thread recently where someone had purchased a 1366x786 screen for the vega. Had a hunt around just now, but can't find it!

Apparently the OEM version of our tab supports this resolution.

There was a link to the site that was selling the screens in the thread, I believe it worked out less that £50, but I have no idea what the shipping cost was.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has got this higher res screen working, I'd definately be up for changing mine if I knew it worked.

Ok going to keep hunting for that thread!

OK replying to my own thread here! . . but I found the link and thread I mentioned above.

Link to higher res screen http://www.nbkit.com/Wholesale/product/LG-...HD__c18093.html

and the original thread: http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...he-best-screen/

Still don't see any evidence that this has been successful on the Vega. Has anyone out there tried this mod?

Great stuff! I would deinately like to hear your throughts when it arrives.

From doing a little reading of this mod for the g-tab over at XDA, there appear to be 2 main concerns.

Q1. There a apparently quite a few screens out there with the same screen dimentions, but some are too deep (some netbook screens) to fit within out tablets.

Q2. Will the OS support it?

I wish you luck and am keeping my fingers crossed that the 'scalable' nature of Android means this is just a plug and play job for the screen.

If you don't mind, could you let us know where you ordered the screen from and how much you paid for it?

Thanks!

No problem at all, ordered it here: http://www.nbkit.com/Wholesale/product/New...HD__c18093.html

And an extra 9 euro for shipping cost. Got a reply today that it has been shipped between 1 and 2 weeks ago so hopefully it's in within a week or something. From what I read it was a tight fit in another device (gtab I believe) but it DID fit with some tweaking and worked but was stretched or something.

Just have to wait and see I guess. It's more of an 'ah well, can always give it a try' fun thing then the need to replace the screen.

Searching eBay returns nothing for that model number :D

http://stores.ebay.it/UK-Screen-Specialist...sid=p4340.l2563 - ask here i think they have it.

or maybe search fist for M101NWT2 and then ask all sellers for M101NWT2 - R0 specific.

I tried them and while they had that screen they said it wouldn't work. Something about the touch screen?!! Surely the digitizer is separate from the LCD? I'm taking my Vega apart over the weekend so we shall soon see!!

Would be interested to see pics if you do. I have a bit of dust (tiny barely noticeable except when I am using it to read a white background item - books etc) and wanted to see how difficult it was to split the screen out to get at it.

Well I decided to take mine apart yesterday to check the screen type. One big problem in replacing the screen will be the fact that it seems quite well glued into the front part of the case. It will take some careful work to remove it without breaking the glass or the case.

If I could fined a better screen I was thinking of replacing the original. However, if it is glued in, I don't think I will bother.

In the past, with other devices, I have used a heat gun to loosen the glue. However as you say it would be very easy to break something.

This all seems like a very fiddly/expensive way of doing this. Is the excess on your home insurance very high? You could just claim on that for the damage.

Even if it is £100, and the faff of claiming and losing my no claims it wouldn't be anywhere near worth doing. Especially in the long run if I have to replace something more expensive like a carpet or sofa.

In that case (and this might be a naughty thing to do), replace the cracked screen (so that it does not look cracked) and put everything back together (doesnt matter if it's not working at this point), then return it as faulty and get a replacement. At least you tried :D

Thanks for the idea but I'm not keen on ripping anyone off.

I've decided I could either sell the battery and PSU for spares (recoup a little bit of my money) or get a new screen and create a Vega type computer in a new case. Nice little project idea!

Hmmm, that's too bad... Dunno how hard I'll try the screen replacing once the LG screen arrives then.

Hi i am from Turkey , and here (about one month before) Computer Corporation named Exper began to sell clone of Advent Vega , they named it Exper EasyPad.

Only look is sligthly diferent.

But some time ago ,one of users broke his tablet screen.Pics of upper screen included.

They asked for repair 167 $ + taxes.

Long story short: They repaired it only changing Broken Part of screen, not Monitor. And sent broken part with repaired tablet back.

I am sure there is a way to remove it , but how i dont have idea.

Note:Sorry for my bad english i dont speak or write maybe near 10 years.

Ok, so the screen arrived today but the first attempt failed...

First the connector is located differently, it's more to the left and upwards on the screen compared to the original...

Second, it didn't work. I only connected the LCD interface by removing it from the original and putting it in the LG (just having it on top of the vega) and after switching on the backlight turned on but nothing appeared on the screen. It booted fine (pressing power it resumed for sleep and went standby again) but no display...

Perhaps I didn't fix the connector properly or maybe I'm missing something else (complete nitwit here) but my gf is coming home in half an hour so I decided to put it together again and give it another try later. It's still working btw :D

But is that all I would have to do in order for it to display an image? COnnecting the LCD interface? It's the only thing I saw for now, and my only goal was to see if it actually would display anything.

Dude, I'm not a pro at this at all.. but I guess it would be a good plan to use some drivers for the new screen?

If you manage to get the new screen working I'll the same LCD asap.

Hi Dagrim,

I'm assuming that the lack of any further additions to this thread either means that it didn't work, or (my glass is clearly half full) that you were so ecstatic that it worked that you forgot to log in and let us all know

I'm guess the latter is unlikely, but do let us know if you got it working.
