I looked at my phone this morning, the battery said it was charged, after being on all night charging, I rebooted it and it now says it's charging again from 88%

what's that all about?

is that the incorrect battery voltage not fixed or what?

cheers

Was it turned on all night? The phone can only charge fully when turned off. Also, I've found the CM7 battery reporting somewhat odd - e.g. it will show ~15%, I'll plug it in, and within a minute or so, will jump up to 40%.

ah maybe that's why, I had it on all night as I always do incase of phone calls, I'll try charging it while it's switched off, is there some kind of indication to when it's fully charged? because the notification light goes green at about 95%

cheers for the answer goatee

No problem - I normally charge when it's turned on as well. No, I don't think there's a way of confirming it's fully charged - just wait for the green light to come on, and then charge for another 30 mins or so :D.

It's just how Android works. Charges to 100% then stops charging until it drops below a certain amount. That's why sometimes your phone drops from 100% to 91% in 5 seconds :D

I can also lose up to about 5% in a reboot at anytime. Someone explained the physics behind this in a past thread but I only vaguely remembering it. Something to do with the battery being under heavy load as it checks the percentage during boot up.

thanks for the replies guys, I'll try a full charge with it off tonight, and have a look into some of the battery related stuff, I know androids way of charging is really odd, can anyone tell me what the deal is with the battery and stuff? does it need to be fully discharged/charged to get it's full life for longer? anything special I should have done out of the box?

sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about how the phone itsellf works, I hope to be able to start some of my own ROM customization some point soon it'd be useful to see how it all works

Just charge as normal. As soon as it hits 100% take it off charge or it will drop down more. It has a lithium ion battery so nothing special to do if anything don't let the battery fully discharge.

You can "bump" charge the battery by charging until it's full. Switch off the phone and plug charger back in, it will charge it a little more. This can extend battery life in the short term but it will ruin your battery quicker.

Read this...seriously..

You should lose a bit of power during a reboot, but stranger still, sometimes I gain some battery % when i reboot, i don't really trust the battery meter to be exact to 1%, I think the margin of error is higher than that.
