I've had the same issue on my Nexus One, usually solved by disabling wifi, rebooting(removing battery) then reenabling wifi.

if you check the test menu *#*#4654#*#* (i think it is) then it would show gsm state disconnected right until i disabled wifi.

Got it unlocked. Tested on all danish networks (3, TDC, TELIA, TELENOR) All work perfectly both on 3g and 2g. (when using 3 its a bit slowe to switch between 3g and 2g. probably  cuz they dont have a 2g net and use TDC's 2g net for roaming)
