Guest newbe5 Posted March 19, 2011 Report Share Posted March 19, 2011 (edited) OK so I've now managed to snag both a Vega and an iPad, and I thought I'd throw up some completely un-scientific (and a little blurry) comparison videos of my feelings comparing the two. I've tried to be as non-biased as I can, and although it might be a little blurry in places I'm sure you will get the idea. This might help some people who are still trying to decide, or those who might just be curious (as I was, which is why I made these :D). I'm planning on making more videos, comparing email etc, but I thought I would post these to begin with. I'm not after a flame fest, and I wasn't out to prove anything here, this was just an honest-to-god experiment and I was interested in the results. newbe5 Edit: New videos! Its a breath of fresh air from the asshole bloggers that all sing from the same script and some asshat forum posters that think they speak for everyone. So yes, you are doing a fine service here, more than you know and you are hilarious too. I look forward to more of your vids, but the obvious is clear, the Vega can do everything the market leader can do, it just lacks the nicer physical design polish and better screen. For the price, its a fine mover, with Modaco rom. Modaco need to work with Advent on their next firmware update. They have turned what would have been a bargain basement turd, into a powerhouse that can stand nearly up there with the best. Oh and you can just get a cheap gorrilapod tripod, 2 reading lamps, and a white semi translucent cloth draped over a big carton as you filming gear. I realise the iPad isn't bad by any means, but you saw the video... I haven't made any of this stuff up, and tehre were no special circumstances regarding the tests. Just a normal home user, testing two similar devices and for me, the results spoke for themselves. Although TBH, it could be in the way I have my Vega set up compared to yours? I'm using MCR8 on the 1.0.9 ROM using BUZZ 0.5 Kernel, I find that setup gives the best results. Also, before anyone goes "blablabla but you don't have to mod the iPad for it to work better like you have done with the Vega"... Does Microsoft Windows come with everything pre-installed? No... You have to install your preferred apps/browser/media player etc, so really using the Vega is no different from using a normal PC. Just one comment, sell the iPad and buy some lighting :D Yea man, I kinda messed up on the production value for these vids :( I'll step it up when I make more... I didn't really think about how bad the lighting might be when I started, and by the time I'd finished I'd drunk quite a lot, so I wasn't about to fix it then :( I'll make sure it's better next time :D Thanks for the comments guys! LMAO thanks man :( I wasn't after trying to actually review each device, but I guss that's what it boils down to. I have to admit when searching Youtube, it bugs me that you get the same spiel again and again, like the person talking hasn't actually used the device for any length of time, I always prefer actually testing stuff out for myself, and since not everyone has the opportunity to stick a Vega and an iPad sire-by-side I thought I'd try and do it for them :( Glad you like the vids! newbe5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Erm... I don't have to press any harder on the Vega than on the iPad? It's not a resistive screen, that's never been an issue for me. you might not have picked up on this, but I'm not sugar coating these video's at all. I've mentioned several areas in which the iPad outperforms the Vega, I'm not afraid of it, my Vega doesn't cuddle me to sleep or offer me sexual favors, so I have no good reason to make stuff up. The pressure which I have to apply to the screen has never EVER been an issue on my Vega, so that's why it hasn't been mentioned. There are possibly other areas where the iPad beats the Vega and overall style is going to be one of those, the apps are just way more swish on the iPad by default, but then the Vega is running Android 2.2, Honeycomb will level the playing field here I think. I do these video's on the fly. I don't write anything down or prepare in any way really, I just decide which area of the device I am going to compare and go for it, the results are just... You have "just" got your Vega and yet you can already comment on the battery life in comparison to your friends iPad which I will assume is not your iPad and therefore you wont have had it in your possession for a time period which would give you a good idea of how good the battery is? "it seems a lot faster" ???? In what way, browser? Plays music faster? Time moves faster when using it? You drop it and it hits the floor faster than the Vega? Jeez, comon. WE KNOW THE SCREEN IS BETTER ON THE IPAD!!! "you can also get more apps for the ipad" I love this argument, what app can you get on the iPad that you cant on the Vega? Both markets are full of clones and soundboards of fart noises and the total amount of apps on BOTH markets indicates NOTHING. Oh and dont worry, I will not seek you out to rub your nose in it when the Android market surpases Apples App store which it is predicted to do pretty soon. Lastly, if you "just" got your Vega and wish you had got the iPad instead then for gods sake take it back and go and buy an iPad. That would make everyone much happier I can assure you. Just like some ipads do? It sure can't be the case where you claim you have to press 10x harder on the vega compared to the ipad because this video has nothing to do with that. The fact that in this case a part of the screen isn't registering properly does not say anything about the total responsiveness about the entire or rest of the screen. It isn't a "OMG the Vega is bettererer than the iPlop" thread, this is a genuine comparison, done by someone who admires both devices and wanted to see for himself what the differences were. I put it online to possibly help other people in deciding which device they wanted to spend their hard earned beer tokens on. If the iPad was flat out better than the Vega, I would have reported that. If the iPad connected to my network, spat out golden bunnies of joy and repaired any and all security flaws on all of my PC's while singing "somewhere over the rainbow" and making me pancakes, I would have reported THAT too. This could have gone either way, the vids weren't prepared ahead of time. If the Vega had crashed during the test, then it would have been in the video for everyone to see... But it didn't. If your getting upset because you think I'm doing something wrong then please explain what you think that is... Otherwise, don't complain about the results, or the way I am reporting them. this is just a honest-to-god normal "guy on the street" comparison of both devices.
