With Android, you "root" instead of jailbreak.

You can download a Windows app from here, it worked flawlessly for me:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

There's a guide there, too, but basically you:

* Enable USB debugging (Settings-->Applications-->Development-->Checkbox "USB debugging")

* Connect phone to computer via USB cable

* Download and run SuperOneClick.exe

* Press Root button

* Wait for it to finish, and reboot phone, done!

You can remove apps with "Titanium Backup" from the Android Market. Here's how (you need root):

* Download "Titanium Backup {STAR} root" from the Market

(* Preferably, download the PRO license version too, because it rocks :D and you may need it)

* Run Titanium Backup and press "Problems ?" button-->Get BusyBox

* Restart Titanium Backup (you can do that from the notification that pops up)

* Press Menu button (beneath the screen, on the phone)-->Batch

* Press "Backup all user apps + system data" and wait for it to finish (then save the backup folder somewhere safe (like Dropbox))

* Now press "Backup/Restore", find the app you want to uninstall, tap on it and press "Un-install !" (use with absolute caution, as removing the wrong apps can mess up the phone) - you can find a guide on what apps are "safe" (as in "it-has-worked-for-someone-else,-that-doesn't-necessarily-mean-it-will-work-for-you-but-maybe-(probably)") to remove here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989283

* Repeat above step 'til you're happy.

* Done :D

As for changing UI, I don't think that's possible at the moment, but it may come with some custom ROM sooner or later.

Hi and grats with you new phone, and welcome to this forum and android... :D

There is no single rooting application as in iOS, every phone has different hardware and different partition layout. This means that pretty much every phone has different way to root.

Some rooting methods are available for many phones as well (exploits in OS), and on the LG O2x you can use

You can install a different launcher if you don't like the one LG provides. There are plenty of options, but most will need a little skinning to tune it to your need... I guess you have to try out a few...

ADW Launcher: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.adw.launcher

Launcher Pro: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fede.launcher

GO Launcher EX: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex

A popular application for uninstalling (or freezing) application is TitaniumBackup.

This application is also perfect for doing backups...
