Hey All,

I'm planning on getting a ZTE racer very soon. I need to get Android 2.2 or 2.3 running on it, so I'm planning on using the ROM here:

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-race...r-uploaded-now/

Can anyone point to detailed instructions on how to use the files posted there? The file provided are:

chun&victor 2.3_signed.zip

2.3boot_signed.zip

The best instructions I've found so far doesn't mention these files - http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-race...and-flash-roms/

Can you confirm that I can safely backup and restore the current ROM if everything fails? How likely/possible is it to brick the phone during this upgrade process?

Can anyone confirm that the ROM above supports USB Tethering? I read a post somewhere that CyanogenMod v7 doesn't, but this was unconfirmed.

Also, I've found an APK for the Skype on Three network here:

http://android.modaco.com/content/software...e-uk-skype-apk/

Skype on Three works differently (voice calls are actually done as voice calls to a Three server somewhere, rather than data, so it can be used on 2g networks as well). Will this APK work on a phone running the ROM above, or does it require the stock ROM that comes with the phone?

I really appreciate any answers I get - thanks in advance!

Note: Once I get this all figured out, I'll hopefully post a detailed tutorial on how to upgrade all this as I haven't been able to find one thus far - All answers will certainly help!

Cheers!

First of all, if you don't mess with the recovery partition itself, it's immortal and yes you can back up if something bricks up, but for every process be sure to be connected to PC or charger. I have a version of skype that actually works. Tether doesn't work for me, cause I can't configure right my drivers for PC, but I think it works. Yes, install via recovery, if you get a boot loop after that, just reflash. Wipe data before every new install. Recover your current ROM before that, it's necessary. You can alway bring it back to life vie recovery mode. Download the 2.3 ROM (search around the forums to get the latest 2.3 ROM, just compare the post date of the rom) and install it like a normal ROM (e.g. first back up your own, then Wipe Dalvik Cache, Wipe data/factory reset, install zip package from sd card). You'll have no problems if you know what to do. 2.2 is likely more stable now, but less cooler than 2.3, so I just wait for the new 2.3, but am on the current 2.3 until that moment. It's almost bugless for now, imagine what it would be after rework. Suit yourself.

I have another question: I have a quadband brazilian X850. GMSArena says the UK racer is triband without the 850mhz GSM frequency (the one I need). Will I lose one frequency if I upgrade my phone?

Skype on 3 doesn't work with any MOD ROM for me.

If you download it from skype.com Skype calls isn't free.

If you want to use free skype call leave the original 3 rom on your phone.
