Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place

I'm trying to get a tablet that will play untouched 720p MKV's so far I have unsuccessful

! have a lot of 720p stuff that I want to play without trans-coding (one of the main reasons I ditched my ipad)

Bought a LG Optimus Pad and thought it's sorted it will be a play 720p files no problem... boy was I wrong it was dropping frames like crazy ( Rock player /V video)

Is there anything in the market or coming to the market that will play unmodded 720p MKV ?

Thanks

JD

Well, without transcoding? You'll likely not get any 720p .mkv's to play very nicely at all. The only thing that comes close to being able to play them is RockPlayer. Maybe when VLC launches they can get it right but I dunno.
What I did is using the Aneesoft Free Video Converter to do the conversion for my watching~

try diceplayer
Galaxy S2 / Tab can play 1080p H.264 High profile level 5.0 + DTS/FLAC/OGG Audio.
Galaxy S/Sensation/Evo 4G can play 720p
if your device can play 720p MP4, diceplayer can play 720p MKV.
diceplayer use HW video decoder.

Have you tried moboplayer? It is alot smoother than Rockplayer, but not sure if it will work though.

I just find a step by step guide on how to successfully play HD MKV in 720p or 1080p on all kinds of Android based smart phones and tablet computers: convert MKV to Android more compatible video format like MPEG-4 at How to Play 720p, 1080p MKV on Android Tablets or Phones?

This guide helps to:

Play 720p or 1080p MKV on Android Phones including HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG, Acer, Sony Ericsson and etc.

I'm not sure if any of the players will read a mkv, but i know it reads mp4 containers, if the video was encoded correctly. From what I've learned, the problem with stuttering has to do with variable bit rates and fps. Also high profile h.264 settings also cause trouble. I've started using Android MKV Converter to convert and Play 720p MKV's on Android. There's a thread on the XDA forums that has a preset built just for the TF, as well as, tweaking settings. Might want to check it out. The short answer to your question is either recode the files or transcode them with a media streamer (TVersity, PS3 Media player, etc...)
