SII Thoughts So Far

Let me start by saying this is the best android handset on the market. It's slick, fast, stable and has, on the whole, nice tweaks to standard android.

If I were being VERY picky then what faults could I find with it.

  • the back is so flimsy when removing, but once fitted its very snug and you hardly ever take the back off
  • worries about overall durability, my nexus one was still mint after nearly a year and a half of use, I suspect this will not be
  • TouchWiz Launcher, this sucks but is easily replaced by ADW or the like
  • TouchWiz Lock Screen, who ever thought this would be a good unlock method needs kicking in the ass, hurry up Paul for stock lock screen
  • the central home button, at least now I can claim it's a Samsung F700-a-like not an iPhone-a-like

So far consider everything else A+

I also agree with the lock screen. sometimes very tricky to unlock ha. can get round it by applying a custom pattern security unlock.

my major issue with it I have just discovered. I have juice defender, but when I go into task manager (long press home button) and clear memory. it turns juice defender off. and I have no idea how to make task manager ignore it. or customize which things are force closed.

also. is anyone experiencing that text doesn't always fit properly in some buttons. for example the widget battstatt? quite a big interface flaw in my opinion. unless its a developer problem that has not optimized the app or button for this phone yet.

how are people finding the battery. I got around 5 hours use purely browsing and using heavy apps on network data. same old android battery usage I'm finding, disappointedd with that. but if I use it as a phone and the odd play. its sufficient.

I have also the hugely popular zte blade and I do not miss it at all.

apart from that huge amount of criticism. I am still hugely pleased with this device. would recommnd to you all

you should not need to be using task manager to clear memory, not sure why samsung included this, with plenty of memory in the phone and android handling switching between programs i see no reason to be clearing the memory manually unless a something has gone wrong. Unless i am missing something?

Battery is okay for me a little better than my desire i think, but hard to tell since i have been playing with it pretty much all the time since i have had it. As usual looks like a charge once a day job, but maybe just a bit easier to get through the day.

I know that you don't need to close apps. just annoying that you can't ignore certain processes running in background

On battery front, you really need to give it a few days of charge/discharge to let it condition itself. Experience with the Desire HD which had dire battery life initially was that it improved significantly after about 10 days.

I will admit.its getting better by the day. I'm making sure it goes flat all the way too

That pretty much sums it up, it should also be noted that this phone plays video far better than any other android device on the market, tablets included, rips eats through HD videos those crappy tegra devices simply cannot deal with deal with.

what formats will it play? i havent tried any yet

bad news: just lost signal completely, turned the phone off and back on again, and it keeps turning itself off and and on by itself now, might go back to phones4u and hope they replace it, still within my first two weeks so...

Very pleased too. I suspect many people are concerned about build quality just because the device is so light but it still feels strong and certainly creaks and flexes less than my htc desire for example.

My only problem with the GS2 is slow wifi performance. I tested it with speedtest.net and I was getting download speeds of 0.5 Mbps when my pc was getting 7.5 Mbps from the same router. A massive 10x difference. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

i've had to send my first unit back as faulty as it was faulty as soon as i received it. It wasn't picking up a signal and kept turning off automatically. Bought it from phones 4 u online

Mine was doing from the moment I got it however i could not make any calls or text at all and the only way to go on the web was via wi-fi. I should be getting my replacement tomorrow.

Think i will just give it them back and get out of the contract until i see more user reviews. Very good phone. But always a risk when its just come out. I am all within my 14 day period so i should have no problem ending it due to handset issues

if you are getting the symptoms that are stating in the thread here 'http://android.modaco.com/content/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-galaxy-s-2-s2-modaco-com/338919/signal-performance/' then the unit is most likely faulty as i had all those symptoms stated. I have received my replacement unit today and that was is absolutely fine with no problems at all and no signal issues or anything.
