I've been playing around with my Arc a fair bit this week and, as any dev will know, not having insecure ADB is a right royal PITA. Insecure ADB allows you to have root shell by default as well as letting you 'adb remount' etc.

To that end, i'm releasing here a method for getting Insecure ADB on any rooted Arc (with or without unlocked bootloader). But...

THIS IS ONLY FOR DEVELOPERS! YOU CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE DOING THIS AND IT IS NOT INTENDED FOR WIDER USE!

Update: This is now available as an easy to use installer APK! DOWNLOAD (Mediafire Pro) - MD5: e71b01c0813af1d1cb1b449e834331ad

Note that this also installs busybox.

Enjoy - I hope this is helpful for helping getting these devices more 'open'.

Chears Paul, Hope that Clockwork can be installed. Was going to get a Optimus 2x but after reading about it. Might pick up a arc instead :-D

I'll be picking up an Arc myself in the newxt few weeks. Would absolutely love to see a MCR for it  Granted SE have promised regular updates BUT if they keep that slightly nasty theme I will always want a custom ROM. Wishing for a possible more vanilla ROM for it :P I'm coming from the Blade which has custom ROMs left right and centre but no regular official updates. Don't know which I'll prefer yet haha.

Great development though, hopefully marks the start of something wonderful :)

You want both, You want the original rom updates to have the updated drivers and firmware to help custom roms be as awesome as they are

Amen to that :) Seriously though I think this phone NEEDS to get some open-ness to it. It's a sweet device but needs to keep it's head above the sea of dual-core superphones somehow. Obviously it has the advantage of... y'know.... being affordable to normal people, but I think opening it up a bit would really let it shine

Hey - If you don't like the SE "blue" just change it.. replace the system images which it uses - semc_bg and semc_general_bg - you don't need a full custom ROM for that!

Paul, does that mean it'll root the arc as well, even with locked bootloader?

Actually that would be epic, GingerBreak seems to have many reports of unreliability O.o
