[Boot Animation] X10 BIOS-style Boot Animation

Over 2250 downloads of all versions of this boot animation total, as of October 21, 2011 !!!

If you wish me to make you one for your specific ROM, please drop me a line via PM, and I'll be more than happy to do so for you.

I found this wicked boot animation for the Nexus One (From Frysee), and decided I wanted to make one similar for the X10. So, using their images as a base, I made a collection of PNG's, and spent about 5 hours trying to figure out why my desc.txt wasn't working. BUT, the end result, I have a working BIOS-style boot, made to the stock X10 specs running almost any of the custom ROM's that are available here.

Here's a preview for you, using the Stock 2.3 X10a BIOS boot. Hope you guys like it !

MAJOR UPDATE October 21, 2011

I have done yet another major overhaul of the boot animations. I basically re-did most of them, removed a bunch of the older ones that aren't been maintained / created any more, and changed a few things around. The old links are still working, but I'm moving them to a Bit.ly bundle instead of individual links on the thread here.

Changes for the current update:

  • Made (most) of the new versions FLASHABLE via CWM or XRecovery !!! (I have tested some on my personal phone, using DooMKerneL test v05a-FS-Stock w/ boot manager - would like more feedback just to make sure it all works)
  • Added Custom MiUI (for those of you using a different MiUI than TripNMiUI) - this is a MTZ THEME FILE, not a flashable zip !
  • Added FreeX10 2.3 flashable zip
  • Added Free Xperia Project flashable zip
  • Added T.E.A.M. ROM flashable zip
  • Tweaked Stock 2.1 and 2.3 to show android version number on Android PnP ROM Extension (not that many will notice it), and made them flashable !
  • Changed 1GB RAM to 1GB ROM on first screen

    TO INSTALL:
    1. Download the flashable zip file to your SD card
    2. Go to the recovery option of your choice - CWM 4, CWM 5, or XRecovery
    3. Choose Install Custom Zip
    4. Browse to the zip you downloaded
    5. Hit Install
    6. Reboot.

    UPDATE June 14, 2011

I have since done a MAJOR overhaul of almost all of the boot animations.

Fixed in this most recent set:

    • FreeX10i added
    • Scramble X10a and X10i added
    • They now say Snapdragon, rather than Snaptragon
    • Resolution changed to be native to the X10 - 450x854, rather than having it upscale on you
    • Jerpelea's now say CM7
    • Wolfbreak's now say CM6
    • Added Stock 2.3.3 for X10a and X10i (for you AOSP people out there)
    • A few other minor tweaks that made them all much happier for me to look at.
    • Changed another typo pointed out to me yesterday - 1024RM on second section, rather than 1024MB

      TO INSTALL ON CyanogenMod-based / Arc / Stock ROM's:

      1. Download the file onto your device - SD card or internal memory.
      2. Using a root-level file browser (I use RootExplorer), copy the file to /system/media, overwriting the current one (since you obviously want to use mine, not the one that's there).
      3. Edit the permissions of the file you just pasted to the following:
        User: Read, Write, Execute
        Group: Read, Execute
        Other: Read, Execute
      4. Back out of there, reboot, and you should have the BIOS Screen.

      TO INSTALL ON MiUI-based ROM's:

[*]Download the file onto your device - preferably your SD card. It should be called something like X10-BIOS - TripNMiUI IRIS.mtz - if it ends in .zip, change the extension from zip to mtz.

[*]Go to Settings => Personal => Manage Themes

      [*]Click on Edit Theme Settings.

[*]Click Boot Animation, press the MENU button, and choose Import theme from SD Card.

[*]Browse to where you downloaded the theme file to, (usually /sdcard/Download) and select it.

[*]Once it appears in your list of Local Boot Animations, select it.

      [*]Then click APPLY.

[*]Back out of there, reboot, and you should have the BIOS boot.

      NOTE TO ALL USERS:

On the first few boots, the animation will be slow and might not complete on time. THIS IS NORMAL. Give it a few reboots, and it should work itself out and complete itself fully.

Download Links: - Please be sure to check for X10a or X10i

IF YOU WISH TO DOWNLOAD OLDER VERSIONS, PLEASE LOOK AT X10 Boot Animations - Non-Flashable

      CURRENT VERSIONS:

      X10a - Free Xperia Project

      X10i - Free Xperia Project

      X10a - Stock 2.1

      X10i - Stock 2.1

      X10a - Stock 2.3

      X10i - Stock 2.3

      X10a - T.E.A.M. ROM

      X10i - T.E.A.M. ROM

      X10a - Wolfbreak's Xperia TW

      X10i - Wolfbreak's Xperia TW

      NON FLASHABLE MiUI for TripNMiUI:

      X10a - TripNMiUI IRIS

      X10i - TripNMiUI IRIS

      X10a - Custom MiUI

      X10i - Custom MiUI

I spent a good few hours working on that, originally just for me. Then I thought, what the hey, make it available for everyone else. I even made a specific pair of packages for your TripNMiUI ROM's, man. And they work wonders. Simple, easy to install, and they look amazing on the X10.\

Have at 'em, folks, and leave me some feedback. Wish there was a THANKS type feature here, but oh well, I'll take number of downloads as good indicators.

have you tried opening it up in your sd card, ie. Astro, or similar program. I dl'd it, then long press on the dl in the notification bar, it then asked if I wanted to apply it, I also used the X10a one but I have an X10I if that made any difference

Okay, from what I've seen, people are having mixed results of installing this.

I'm going to update my instructions in the top with a more step-by-step guide, so give that a try and let me know.

It's been updated in the thread @ JackSharing. More of a step-by-step guide, which should work. Please try it and let me know. I'll check my ZIP files and see if there are any issues there, but I haven't had any problems, and I use the X10a TripNMiUI IRIS that I uploaded here - I tried it on my phone first.

Yup, that's pretty much exactly what happened on my phone (running Trip's excellent "Iris" 1.5.5 MIUI ROM). Regardless, excellent work, thanks :D

Okay, I re-uploaded the two MTZ files for the TripNMiUI IRIS boot animations. Recompressed them. Edited the description.xml file. Re-compressed the theme. Renamed it to .mtz.

So give the new TripNMiUI IRIS ones a go - they should be named (once you download 'em), either bootanimation-X10_BIOS-TripNMiUI-IRIS or X10i BIOS - TripNMiUI IRIS.mtz.

Hopefully that fixes your problems, folks.

Oh cool, your the guy who made this?

Lol, awesome, btw, this isn't working on my x10i w/ Wolf's CM6.1.3 w/TW v007 + Teaser :D

Just gets a black screen where the boot normally is, and yes I've used fuguremove.

You will have to ask WolfBreak about that one, Blaven. I asked him, and he told me to use the FuguRemove tool. Then, once you have done that, put a copy of the bootanimation in the /system/media folder, and try again. That what he told me in his PM when I asked him about it.

Well, did not work, tried several times but always end up with only a black screen. :D

Darn.

Maybe I'll give his ROM a flash and see if I can work on it. Not sure what I can do, not being a dev, but maybe, who knows.

Hope you find out why, really wanted this bootscreen. :o

Nice work btw. :D

But in the preview, is it just me or does it say "Snatragon" instead of "Snapdragon"? :D

Yes, it says Snaptragon. I noticed that the other day on mine, and I kinda had a WTF moment. I'll be fixing it probably in the next few days, around everything else.

It is on my to-do list, so hopefully things will calm down and let me actually work on that.

Thanks again, Blaven !

Always glad to help. :D

When I finish my exams I'll look into the boot problem aswell, if it's not already fixed that is.

Hoping I might be able to give some real assistance. :D

Yeah, me too. It's what I've been doing with TripNMiUI Gingerbread - helping any way I can, helping answer questions in his thread, posting my little FAQ right after his initial post, etc. Unfortunately, I became enamoured of MiUI, and I just have trouble going back to CyanogenMod-based ROM's. But that's just me.

Anyway, thanks again, and when I get this updated I'll be sure to let you all know.

I'm considering maybe switching to one of Trip's roms after my exams (I don't want an unstable phone and getting used to a new rom is pretty time consuming), kinda unsure wich one to pick tough, so much choise. :D

Then I'll also be able to use this boot, wich will be great. :D
