X10 Dev Lessons

I never quite felt comfortable asking about this in xda but everyone seems more open here so I thought I'd ask.

All of the devs here for the x10 have quite extensive device specific knowledge.

It would benefits us to post some details on things they've done to change, optimize, or otherwise modify their roms.

It's probably asking alot, but I for one would greatly appreciate a short lesson on optimizing battery life or what are the problems with getting the flash to work in the stock camera apps.

I know documentation isn't any developers favorite activity, but it would benefits us all and help continue to push out the lifespan of our favorite android device.

Yes, I agree. this would be great. If Wolfbreak and trip can chime on that would be cool. Kr3g3r too as a huge asset as well. I'm no where close to being a dev, but i use to be a rom builder for windows mobile for myself, never really published roms, but made them to my liking using other tweaks others have de as base. Android is a whole different animal. I have read a coulld of posts about the kitchens available......but have not giving the time to see which is best for our beloved X10, can one of the superb devs at least recommend a specific one? just so i know where to start off!!!

I finish my degree at the end of this year, I actually cannot wait to learn more about the android coding and stuff, because i will have free time, I hope to one day maybe even obtain dev status.

@all

i perfectly understand what you mean but but saying that doesn´t mean i can agree totally with you.

i was once a newbbie here or at xda but you need to understand this: it´s a little annoying (at least) see the same things asked over and over again just because most of the times you (you, us, whatever...) don´t have the "patience" to search. I also know that the search button is a really pain in the ass but even so...

people really need to know how to use these kind of forum sites. this is not chat! it´s incredible the amount of useless posts rather on Trip`s, Jerpelea, zdhizu, etc, etc. how can you expect, in the middle of those threads, any response? you just can´t!

by this i´m not pointing anyone´s finger here. just a generally idea.

just one question:

did OP really expect to get any tweak by open a thread like this one? wouldn´t be better if the OP opens a new thread something like "Tips, Tweaks....." or something like that?

when i create the how-to for flashtools i put some tweaks in it too did anyone see? when i create a how-to regarding xrecovery 0.0.1 i put some tweaks. did anyone see?

like i said. there´s plenty of info regarding almost everything the problem remains...search and patience to do so.

just my 2 cents.

cheers;)

I'm also finishing college (A-Levels) soon, and I'm going to be doing a lot more programming, when I start my degree in October. I would also love to learn more about kernels, coding in java and so on, for use in Android, and other OS's.

Nice...

Is it hard? Majority of us have the basics of computing, but i can't imagine what you guys are doing to publish one after another of these ROMS.

I too would like to learnmore on rom building and tweaking. It isn't so much that I want to create roms and put them out, but more the fact that it gives you s better understanding of how everything works. I like to learn as much about things that interest me as possible. I am not the type that likes to be told to go dig a hole and just do it, I like to know Why I'm digging the hole. Helps me grow and learn and appreciate more of what goes into any given project.

I would suggest all to jump into the dualboot image creation.

Dualboot allows you with following features.

  1. Your Base ROM remains un effected
  2. You can play as much as you want just reboot to get back to old ROM.

Now getting back to some tweaks and tips stuff.

First up when you download a ROM file try exploring it .....

Try finding what all files means how the folder is structured how the files and folders follow a naming convention.

Its good if you have a background in linux really helps.

Inside the zip file you will find system folder

that's where your OS / ROM resides....

in system folder app contains application apk's.... (which can't be removed directly.)

simmilarly you will find various folders try to look for what these folder's do

People might never have time to explain all to you .....

if you want to do something start exploring.
