My friend has an engineering sample phone but o2 has blocked it because it appears to have an IMEI with lots of zeros in it.

Is there any way of changing the IMEI or at least getting Android to report back a different IMEI?

Many thanks in advance, I'm aware that there may be some legal issues with this but it is not as if the phone has been stolen.

It is illegal regardless of the phone being legitimately owned, and you can't do it anyway.

I have also problem with IMEI, my IMEI has changed after CM7 flash, do you knwo how to recover it?

IMEIs are, as far as i believe, now hard coded and cannot be changed.
It is also illegal to change the IMEIs on any device!
If it is a legitimate engineering sample then you should be able to approach the network and request that the phone be unblocked.

As for an IMEI being changed during a flash from one rom to another that should not be possible.

Maybe it's legal / illegal ... but for sure it's possible, my IMEI has changed and now I need to find a way to recover it.

Don't think all the people are illegal guys.
I want to flash the new 606 baseband.
I use smartflash but i was wrong in using this program.
I have cheked the box "Erase CP" and now my O2X does'nt find the network. My phone send "carte incorrect" or "No network".
And now my IMEI is different that the original... Why? I don't know.

I search how change this IMEI but i can't...

According to this thread a combination of NVFlash and Smartflash will get your IMEI back.

Because you've selected erase CP box.
Rule No.1 is never select this if you dont have the correce baseband for your device.

Try getting default baseband your device came with, flash it again and this time CHECK THE BOX "ERASE CP" WITH PURPOSE

Please try this

1. Connect phone by USB
2. Enter 1809#*990# in dialer
3. Select Port Settings -> Select CP USB
4. Start hyperterminal, in COM settings select same port like in devide manager -> LGE mobile USB Serial Port, 115200
5. Type AT if response is not OK, change port number
6. Type at%imei, it should display your current IMEI
7. Type at%imei=x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x , where x,x,x... is your orginal IMEI number
8. Reset

Are you running custom ROM?
If YES, this is the reason why you are getting this

Im running CyanogenMod-7.1, is it not possible to run under this rom? under what rom should i run it ?

Well, if you shouldn't run a custom rom, then whats left?...

you have to use lg dialer or compatible,
the other way is to add an activity shortcut 'hidden menu' by using launcher pro for example

Can you help me i need to change my phone's imei but i can't success it gives IMPL ERROR message after type "at%imei=x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x ,"

1. Connect phone by USB

By putting the usb mode: USB CP
The PC did not do anything, does not appear to install any new device.

I can not select any COM, does not exist.

I add that I have it as well as baseband Unknow,
