My phone has arrived from Germany. Complete with Lidl.de sim. May be handy for when I go there next as it has one months free net access.

So first impressions are good. It has a nice feel in the hand, very light. So now I'm adding apps. :D

And the other good news is it is unlocked.

Now I need my case and screen protector.

did you manage to get it rooted?

if so any chance you could do make a romdump for me ?

I'd like to help you with a ROM dump. But the phone is not yet rooted. But the androot I have is 1.6 for up to 2.2. Was not convinced this was the best way to root it. Any suggestions?

ah, is it running 2.3.4 as mentioned in the first post? if so there is currently no root exploit?

if you have ADB running tho, there are a couple things we could try,.. if your interested :)

It has android 2.3.3, Kernel 2.6.35.7-perf, Build U8510-1V100R001C169B850,

I will put on ABD if it's in the market and let you know.

What's my next step.

oh that's not so bad, we can use Gingerbreak, but you still need ADB

adb is not an app, its something you need on your computer..

the first thing to do is install the USB drivers for your device, more than likely when you first plug your device into the phone it will show up as a CD drive and have some drivers to install?

once you have done that, you need to follow this guide:

http://www.addictive...all-it-android/

Once you have done that you should be able to connect to you device from your PC, and then we can root/dump it.

NOTE: there is a GingerBreak App, but we do not want to run that just yet since it will modify your device and we need a romdump before its modified.

Once you get ADB working you need to download this file:

http://stealth.openw...GingerBreak.tgz

and then download romdump from the previous link, unzip both files into a directory and from your DOS/CMD line type:

adb push romdump /data/local/
adb push Gingerbreak /data/local/
adb shell chmod 04775 /data/local/*
adb shell /data/local/GingerBreak
adb shell /data/local/romdump

you should end up with a directory on your SDCARD called romdump, if you can zip that up and upload it somewhere I can take a look.

the other thing you can try is if you can find a terminal program on the marketplace and then you should be able to run those commands from the device itself, you will need to copy those files onto your SDcard, and then copy the files off the SD card but you should be able to mount the device as external storage...

Hi sorry for not getting round to doing this. I have not had much free time and when the wife is out she takes the phone.
Good news however. I've seen an advert in today's Metro newspaper. Phones4U are selling this phone now for £69.95 as an upgrade. So hopefully more people will start to have one. Maybe you can get the image before I can get a chance
