The Mojang and Sony Ericsson collaboration that we have all been patiently anticipating has finally arrived exclusively for our Xperia PLAYs!

Available now to download from the Market at the price of £4.26 https://market.andro...ang.minecraftpe and with the hours and hours of creative fun to be had it is a steal at this price!

Minecraft is a gaming institution amoungst PC gamers and it is the most downloaded paid for independant game of our time. Which is some feat considering no real effort has ever been needed to promote this game. It was all done through recommendation.

For those of you who never got the pleasure of playing Minecraft before now it has the most basic premise of a game but one that makes the game so utterly addictive. You move through your terrain building what ever your imagination can muster with blocks that represent bricks, stone, sand etc etc. You build shelters to keep yourself safe from the monsters that lurk in dark corners :-) (creepers!)

It was the 1st game of it's kind as it made you felt like you were 'building' the game as you moved through your dominion sculpting the landscape to your vision. Everything that happened around you was because of your creative genius.

The Minecraft Pocket Edition for Xperia PLAY makes Minecraft that little bit more accesible to a new breed of mobile gamers. Taking the once PC game that you played secretly at work and making it possible to play on the way to work too!

Many of the original aspects are still firmly in place in this 'Pocket Edition': the classic 8-bit 3D environment, the laid back nature and the lack of tutorial. The only thing missing is 'Survival Mode' which is a shame and I hope will be added soon.

So now I am going to spend most of today building to my heart's content... report back what I find but first impressions are spankingly superb. Smooth control, ultra clear graphics and the ever present charm that is quintessentially Minecraft.

After playing Minecraft - Pocket Edition now since it's release yesterday and I can only try and describe my delight at having a hand held version of one of my all time favourite games. Although there are a couple of disappointments I am assuming mine will be rectified with developer updates. For starters there are no creepers or zombies or in fact vampires to be seen anywhere but with the ever mindful Mojang reporting of updates to be made I am hoping 'Survival Mode' from the PC paid for version will be first up. The controls on the PLAY are fluid and responsive but it felt so bizarre for me playing with a 'controller' instead of my trusted mouse and WASD :-) I became accustomed to the change in a matter of minutes though as I suddenly felt the need to build tunnels and then a scary looking castle and OK so a full 24 hours have passed and 2 full drains of my battery later... I am exhausted and yet still not 'crafted out.

For me after this release and the newly announced FIFA 12 (winter release date) exclusively on the PLAY aswell I can now exhale that baited breath as the Xperia PLAY can at last be regarded as a contender within the gaming device market.

The release of Minecraft Pocket Edition on XPLAY has seen the original PC version of the game back in the top 10 games (according to Gamespot user activity from yesterday)

Just shows the love of this epic game has never left us :-)
