Annoying keyboard

Hi guys.

The keyboard on my Commtiva N700 keeps popping up when it's not wanted, including during apps that would not need a keyboard. Has anybody had this problem & is there any way to disable it until it's needed?

I have had a Commtiva N700 for about six weeks now.

I too am also getting very annoyed by the keyboard popping up at randon times when it is not requested and not required.

The same thing is also happening at times when the bottom menu options bar pops up at random.

Occasionally the tablet goes into a spasm with the keyboard flashing on and off and the right hand touch buttons lighting and buzzing.

May be we have a hardware fault ?

Yes, seems so.

Over at xda-devs there's a thread too.

Seems it's related to HWVer 1.03.

My VPAD7 also has random menu/keyboard popups which seem to be related to a defective touchscreen and/or softkeys.

It also pops up by taking the device on the left side... where no softkeys are placed...

Most probably it is just the design - like iPhone loosing connections when held wrongly.

I have noticed that keyboard can even pop up when tablet is put in the car on the edge with usb socket, and then the vibrations car is causing are popping up keyboard or options menu.

When playing fruit ninja game options menu appears interrupting and pausing the game - really frustrating.

Reported my "random keyboard popup problem" to UK distributer Linx-AC.com who said send it to Micro -P at Accrington UK for repair.

This I did, and after a week they sent me a new replacement unit.

Unfortunately the replacement unit turned out to be D O A. It would not power on, would not charge, was totally DEAD.

Reported that the new unit supplied was D O A to Micro-P who then responded :-

"We no longer provide a repair service for the N700 unfortunately. We have instructed the distributor to accept any faulty units back for credit, if you return the faulty units back to the place off original purchase they can in turn return them through the supply chain for credit."

Looks like if you have a faulty unit in the UK you are stuffed.

I did like the N700 when it worked, but am now stuck with a lemon.

I have recently bought half a dozen faulty ones of these off eBay. All of them had broken USB plugs, bad design fault basically. Anyway one thing I did notice is that if the battery is flat it will not charge without giving the battery a metaphorical kick up the rear. I connected a current limited supply set to 300 ma for about a minute direct to the battery then stuck the charging cable back in and all was good. You will sit for ever waiting fo0r it to charge showing no signs of life if you don't do that.

Generally speaking the build quality is good inside these things, apart from the stupid mistake of soldering the USB socket direct to the mother board through very small solder points I think they are OK. When I repair them I put solder all the way round the thing and add epoxy on top to give it the mechanical strength needed to cope with the pulling they get in normal use.
