[ROM] Unofficial MIUIandroid 1.10.8

I have decided to publicly release my own port of MIUI for the U8800 based upon the HTC Desire Z ROM from MIUI & MIUIAndroid.com

Originally I intended to keep the builds private since I only did the ports as a learning excercise. However I shared the last build with some people and had positive feedback which has encouraged me to share the ROM with everyone.

About the ROM

The ROM is built upon the MIUIAndroid HTC Desire Z ROM as this is the closest officially supported device to the U8800. MIUIAndroid was chosen since they are cleaner and closer to the original MIUI ROMs than other projects, and Stockwell already has a very good MIUI.us port over on XDA. Full respect must go out to Stockwell as without his very hard work and dedication I would never have had the chance to play with MIUI and get so addicted to it.

The ROM supports both English and Chinese languages. Other languages can be applied by using the relevant Desire Z pack from your local translation teams.

Known issues that may affect you

  • Some users may still have non-functional camera. Please let me know
  • Internet tethering currently does not work.
  • 802.1x EAP with phase 2 authentication WiFi does not function properly.
  • WiFi drops if your router uses a very long DHCP lease time.
  • Minimum brightness level is virtually off. Some people like it, some don't.
  • Green line in photos taken at 5MP. Less than it was earlier but still visible. Switch to 3MP to remove for now.

Kernel code

This ROM utilises a kernel originally developed by Huawei with improvements by Stockwell, DZO and Franco. The kernel was forked by myself and modified to fit in with my own personal requirements. Full source is available at github.com/flibblesan/u8800-2.6.32

Credits

MIUI & MIUIAndroid for the original ROM and translations. Several libs built from source provided by DZO on his Oxygen github with thanks. This port also includes libs built from CyanogenMod 7 code provided by HCDR.Jacob. Any proprietary libs taken from stock Huawei ROMs.

Oh looking good!

Is there is an option to reboot to recovery, because I've heard that Reboot to recovery in ROM Manager ins't so good to do (No-frills warns that the phone wasn't powered off correctly)?

I didn't even think about that. At the moment the only way to get into recovery is to reboot holding down power and volume up. I'll look at adding a reboot option that doesn't break things too much.

Update: Found a 4-way reboot mod at http://forums.miuiandroid.com/showthread.php?5651-MOD-4-Way-Reboot-1.9.23/. I modified the setup script to work on the U8800 better and uploaded it. Link in first post.

If people like having this option then I'll add it to the rom from the next release.

I take it upgrading from MIUI.us 1.9.16 (by Stockwell) won't be a problem?

Can I just wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache? Will GApps still be there etc?

GApps is there. Don't know if you can upgrade from MIUI.us to MIUIAndroid, take a nandroid then try.

The 4-way reboot script doesn't install.

Installing...

mount() expects 3 args, got 4

E:Error in /sdcard/4wayreboot-MIUI-1.9.23.zip (Status 7)

Which version of the recovery are you using? Have you tried downloading it from the original link at miuiandroid?

Yeah it should be fine. The only thing I can think of a problem will be having to enter your Google account information again.

Just an idea, how easy would it be to Remove the following Items from the Settings Menu:

- Tethering & Portable Hotspot

- LED Settings (Controls Trackball LED)

Obviously Tethering is not working and I'm guessing Trackball LED Settings was from the Desire Z?

Think it would be allot slicker to remove options for things that don't work :)

Not sure how easy this would be so ignore me if its not easy/possible :D

I think you have to recompile the settings app, we'll get stock tethering sooner or later either someone does it or the official 2.3 will have it.

Not difficult really. Decompile Settings.apk, remove or comment out the options then rebuild. However I eventually want to get tethering working and the LED settings works. It lets you set the notification LED. Colors, show or not show etc. :D

Think I will do this just for my own use, thanks for the instructions :)

Uploaded the 4-way reboot mod again and checked it. Also uploaded a mod for lockscreen only. I use this one as I like to keep the option to show the toggle window & notification if I hold power down.

Just out of interest, is there any way to change the MMS Useragent like you can in CM7?

My MMS pictures are coming through really small, I had the same problem with the Blade using giffgaff/o2 :(

Not seen any options to change that :(

Only thing I can suggest for now is to use a different messaging app. GoSms should allow you to set the user agent.
