How do I root a ZTE Blade (Orange San Francisco)?

I am completely new to rooting and flashing and therefore do not really know where to start.

I have an Orange San Francisco, in the "about phone" section on this phone it says:

Firmware Version: 2.1-update1

Baseband version: P729BB01

Kernel Version: 2.6.29

Build number: OUK_P729BV1.0.0B05

At times, the phone runs really slow and therefore I want a ROM which will be faster than the stock one. I also want to get rid of the awful Stock Apps put on by Orange as they will be slowing my phone too.

What do I need to do in order to do this and what are the risks of doing so?

Thank you so much if you can help me.

I used universal androot to do mine, you can then just delete all the crap you don't want or flash new rom, the newer roms are Gen 2 only though so you will need to read up on that and double check before doing it, some have all in 1 packages which will do it all for you
