Advent Vega customisation

New to all this but here goes.

I have a Advent Vega which has been customised with a MoDaCo Custom Rom ( Advent Vega r8) but I can't connect it to my P.C. via the USB port.

The manual states that a USB connected symbol will appear in the notifcation area, it does'nt  and I can't see the device in My Computer.

Any help would be appreciated
