Guest JOBooth Posted November 2, 2011 Report Share Posted November 2, 2011 (edited) Those of you beta testing GingerStreak, are you just flashing the newest incremental ROM over the previous ROM or are you doing a full clean install? I'm about to flash 2.4.4-3 over 2.4.4-2. Previously I would have flashed the new ROM, then cleared all caches and done a full reset followed by reinstalling all my apps. I was thinking about just flashing the new ROM and calling it good. Whadya think? FINAL: Looks like I got my answer. Do a CLEAN install each and every time! Guest alert_bri Posted November 3, 2011 Report Share Posted November 3, 2011 In addition, I was using Titanium backup to capture all of my apps... and then restoring them *without data* to the new version - but came to the conclusion that even that was causing some potential problems with app installs, so now I do it the long way, by installing each app I need directly from the app store over a fully clean install. Guest Slaydog Posted November 3, 2011 Report Share Posted November 3, 2011 I even had issues using MyBackup Root, installing APK'S and data separate. Now I just use Dell Backup and Restore. Select advanced, then each app will take you to the market directly to install. You can check "Unknown Sources" then and install any APKs directly without the market. I think the regular MyBackup works the same way, but the Dell program comes pre-installed on many roms so its just easier. I'm sure Steve has a good reason for wanting a clean install for betas, there may be a lot of changes between versions, and also if you run into problems and want to report bugs you have to make sure its the rom and not your install. If so, how would flashing an earlier ROM help the issue? It seems to me if we had a tool to format those partitions instead it would be more efficient. Actually, I recently replaced my internal SD and have not noticed any greater stability. Sigh.
