Is it worth having something like this installed? Seems to take up a lot of ram at 10mb, but I am getting pretty crappy battery life on Bluemonte.

I'm using juice defender on my Streak and find it ruddy useless! Never had battery problems on my Skate, seems to go on for ages.

I found my battery life crappy too, but never figured out why. Perhaps I use it too much, anyway. I use green power since couple days now and my  battery life has been multiplied by 2 or more. But, like i said before, i dunno if my battery drain was normal or not, i've nothing for compare.

Does the automatic backlight drain the battery faster than the manual backlight (e.g. at 25%/50%/75%)?

Yes I do, seems usefull sometimes and totally useless the rest of the time, it depends.
