Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone's heard anything from Acer about ICS coming to the liquid metal.

I'm not requesting a port or anything, just curious if anyone has an information on the possibility of it coming to our phone.

I'd love to have the features (mainly the new keyboard, and h/w acceleration).

Acer's actually done a surprisingly good job at bringing the gingerbread updates. Their support's been a lot better, and the updates have been a lot faster than other manufacturers.

So... anyone heard anything? :)

Haven't heard anything about ICS coming to the Metal.

Personally, I doubt we'll get an official release from Acer even though they have been good updating the Gingerbread iterations quickly.

I wouldlike to make a couple of thoughts:

1 - At the moment the LiquidMT, excluding Iconia, is the higher-end product portfolio of Acer,

2 - If SonyEricsson said the Xperia Play (very similar to LiquidMT) is updated ICS, I do not see why it can't be updated our LiquidMT.

What do you think?

Am I wrong?

You're sort of right.

1.) This is true, for that reason the chance of them updating it to ICS is slightly higher compared to other phones but personally, I can't see them doing it as they just wouldn't have that big an incentive to do so.

2.) Somewhat true, the screen resolution is the same but the processor is different, MSM7230 on the Liquid and an MSM8255 on the Play. Also, I think things such as Bluetooth, Camera and Wi-Fi drivers are likely to be different.

Sony went back and said that ICS for their full range of phones was TBA, after it semi-officially announced. Personally I'd be very surprised if Acer bothered with ICS for this handset in the near future. It would amazing if they did, but have probably spent a plenty of development costs getting the Gingerbread update going for now. ICS also seems suited to the handsets with slightly larger screens than the Liquid MT, so i'd say it's touch and go whether Acer would bother with it.

Here's hoping.

I have always believed that the difference between MSM7230 and MSM8255 was only the frequency, which is easily avoidable with the modified kernel.

For the rest, there aren’t key elements for an upgrade.

Instead, as Hanks6 said, the screen may be a problem ...

Anyway hope it doesn't hurt anyone! wink.gif

There was a comment a couple of weeks back that ASUS had suggested there would be an OTA update to ICS for Liquid Metal.

Guess only time will tell.
