Not your usual overclocking question

Okay don't shoot me down/flame me, but when we over clock are the reboots due to temperature increase?

I was thinking depending on where the CPU is located a vent could be cut out above it? and use a screen like the speaker one?

Just an idea ;)

The reboots are due to The high cpu frequence. Kernels have a max cpu frequence. For example, if a Kernel can be overclocked max a 960 ad if you try to overclock the Cpu to 998, the phone reboots. I think this is the reason of reboots.

Okay, people seem to have different results i.e some folk can run slightly higher than others, I know no 2 cpus are the same though.

The reason the cpu reboots is because it's running quicker than the silicone can handle and makes an error in calculation or fails to properly send instructions. The kernel then panics and reboots.

This isn't a heat issue unfortunately, it's a physical limit.

Interesting,does that mean then that in theory,you can not really damage the cpu with overclocking as android will shut down when the physical limit is reached ?

I always worry with overclocking,as there are so many different views.Some say overclocking a phone is not like overclocking a pc,so no real heat is generated.

And others say your cpu will fry and a thermal nuclear explosion will take place and your android will melt,becoming one with your hand.

Ok I overdone it on that last bit :lol:

But you get what I am saying,there is no absolute agreement as to the effects of overclocking android.
