I am sharing this just to give anyone who may be interested a small taste of Android 4.0 Hopefully the Pros turn up soon and fix what I cannot bodge :)

Credits:

Bare minimum work has been done by me, just a ton of time learning and failing! I believe credits go to tilal6991 and TomGiordano for his kernel and no doubt countless others but I am not aware of whos doing what. Also Fuzzra for his Sanfrancisco II Touchscreen code.

Only sharing as I managed to get wifi working on this. Consider everything else broken although in reality you may have more success.

Issue:

Vivacity Home button is broken - Work arounds include installing a gesture app from the market. - Any ideas to fix this welcome!

First boot takes a while, 3-5mins.

Only tested on T-Mobile Vivacity

Sanfrancisco II Version is as safe as the vivacity to boot, only changes are some touchscreen code that I cannot confirm work - PLEASE report back to me!

Though as always Flash at own risk!

Important: Backup your phone within recovery for easy return to your daily ROM!

Important: While in recovery you MUST wipe "data/factory reset" + "wipe cache partition" + in Advanced "Wipe dalvik cache"

Thx for this...trying it out on SFII, Just a heads up for others with the SFII, flashing this rom and then flashing the stock SFII kernel doesn't work, don't even try it ;)

I'm guessing it would boot a lot faster without the loading screen, although it does look VERY sexy (Just noticed you can disable the boot animation in the Performance section of the settings - Doesn't work just now though, still comes up).

Sadly no way to add your Google account details so no market, no contacts.

LOVING the addition of the screenshot function when you hold down the power button and, of course, the reboot function is a must for people who mess about with roms

Can you report how the screen is on the SFII?

For your google account details, market etc I believe you need this (gapps): http://www.mediafire...lx9f937kq9aivaf Its not something I use so I have no tested. Awaiting your feedback! (No longer required)

I am thinking for the home button issue we could work around it, there must be a app that can live in the pulldown status menu (where it lists Date, alerts, texts etc) and we just click that instead.

Sounds good...wont be trying myself until we get the screen correct.

Would be great if someone with some knowledge would develop into a proper full working rom.

I really could do with some advice as to the best place to get started in the whole rom building game, been looking at a few things online and to be honest I get lost with most of the tutorials

Obviously because we cannot flash the stock rom for the SFII and most of these roms seem to be developed on the Vivacity, the keyboard, as you would expect, has the skewed effect on the SFII.

The screen seemed fine, although when the rom first started the screen was very dark but I increased the brightness myself in the settings.

Wireless:

For those who might try the rom, the wireless seemed to work fine although the strength meter seemed to be showing the strength in black "bars" and not the blue which makes it look like you have no strength, although the browser did come up with google so I'm guessing the wireless was working.

My mac code was displayed properly and my wireless networks were shown as expected.

When you turn on the wireless (and reboot the phone) it's confusing to know where the wireless settings are (to choose your network for example), you get there by tapping on the Wireless label.

Thx for the google apps link, I had flashed back to the r1 SFII rom but I'll try the ICS again and see if I can get the google apps working. I'll report back on that.

Other things I noticed:

1. Live wallpapers doesn't do anything.
2. No overclockable kernel is supported yet (It might be possible on the Vivacity because there seems to be an overclockable kernel available for that)
3. USB mounting was a little hit or miss (Didn't work first time - made the phone hang until you pull the cable out, whereby it reboots automatically, usb mounting then works after the restart) so if you do want to try the rom, remember to stick your "safe rom" (and the stock kernel for the SFII if you need to) on the sdcard as well so you can escape to that if things go tits up :)
4. Rebooting into recovery using the power button menu doesn't work, so just use the vol down button at bootup as usual. Normal reboot works ok. (EDIT: Did work second time, possibly due to restart)

My home button seems to work fine but, of course, on the SFII it's a physical button, on the Vivacity it's a "soft" button so will probably present more problems.

Gone back to my "safe rom"...

So, ICS conclusion, it's on it's way but A LOT of stuff doesn't work which, to be honest, I'm quite disappointed with cos most people say we can expect working roms about 3 months after the actual SDK release but it is a brand new phone and ZTE aren't known for being very helpful so let's hope they have a change of heart.

All I can think off regarding the google account is a reboot may be required to get the new services up and running. Or on that same line of thought, a fresh wipe and install the ics rom + the gapps in one recovery session. Maybe it needs to be there for the long first boot?

I did install both together and had tried a reboot, neither helps :(

MCZQ, I'm having some wicked sick reboot to recovery woes with my savagely mangled version of tilal6991's excellent skate work. Is this something you had to fight, or does it sound like I have made an exciting new mistake?

Edited because port makes me type like the least successful of the infinite monkeys with typewriters.

Source is preferable. I like to be able to glare myopically at code until I see an avenue of attack. I get to learn all sorts of handy things when I break some source code badly. ;)

As things currently stand I've snarfed your device config from github and gone through it with a (pretty knackered, and with chunks missing) fine toothed comb to convert it. Unfortunately I've yet to produce a build which boots. Admittedly that's progress though - this time yesterday I still couldn't get a build to finish.

What I'm planning on doing is making a common repo for configuration which is the same across all the devices and then have individual repos for individual devices which contain only the options relevant to that device. I'll put it up on the weekend.
