ive started this new thread as the videos of taking the racer apart on you tube don't seem to be there any more(or i can`t find them!) WARNING....IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE NOT UP TO THE JOB OF DOING THIS,TAKE THE PHONE INTO A PHONE REPAIR SHOP,I DON'T  FIX PHONES,SO IF YOU BREAK IT,ITS DOWN TO YOU.YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.... (sorry the pics are a bit of a blur)  this is for replacing the front screen with the surround.  zte racer screen surround.jpg   5.1K   20 downloads frist of you will need these tools.  Photo-0004.jpg   45.06K   11 downloads i got these from ebay,they are listed as ZTE blade tools but they do work on the racer.this pic is of my phone  Photo-0001.jpg   42.63K   13 downloads witch i will be using,first,power of your phone and remove battery cover,battery,sim card and sd card.  Photo-0002.jpg   46.31K   7 downloads then,remove the small screws(there are 1 on each corner)  Photo-0003.jpg   41.35K   8 downloads the screwdriver i used is a baby Phillips screwdriver(cross head) some people call it a t4,t5 or t6 type.after removing the screws(don`t lose them!)use the plastic tool that come with the kit.(you can also use a guitar pic or a plastic counter from a board game to do this.insert the tool (etc) in the gap just behind the volume button.  Photo-0006.jpg   42.8K   12 downloads gently insert the tool into the gap,you should hear click,and a gap will appear between the middle part(grey bit) and the front surround.  Photo-0007.jpg   36.96K   11 downloads place the tool in the gap and work your way around the phone,beware of the headphone port as as it sits directly under under the hole for headphones.  Photo-0008.jpg   36.21K   15 downloads the middle part should now lift away.next,with the phone face down and the power button at the top,near the bottom right hand corner,this is where the ribbon is,(this is what makes the touch screen work)use your finger to remove the ribbon from the slot.  Photo-0012.jpg   41.5K   16 downloads then near top of the phone,insert the plastic tool between the surround and the board,then your way around between the surround and board.  Photo-0014.jpg   44.67K   23 downloads the board should now come away from the touch screen/surround.  Photo-0017.jpg   55.4K   29 downloads the phone is now fully apart.this next part is just for replacing the touch screen/surround complete.(as in first pic)as of this time,im still waiting for the touch screen tape to turn up(will post pics when it turns up) first remove the call answer/decline button(this comes away VERY EASY,so make sure it doesn't do a runner!  Photo-0018.jpg   42.98K   23 downloads then,remove the speaker from the phone,(put it back as pic there is room to place a small screwdriver to free it  Photo-0021.jpg   37.03K   22 downloads then place the speaker and call answer button into the new touch screen/surround housing.before you put the board back,give the back of the touch screen a wipe with a lint free cloth(or the cloth you wipe your glasses with)then place the board on top of the touch screen(making sure you DON`T trap the ribbon!) insert the ribbon into the key way slot.  Photo-0013.jpg   40.41K   22 downloads the ribbon should have a white line on it,THAT NEEDS TO GO INTO THE SLOT THE MAKE THE TOUCH SCREEN WORK.then put the middle part of the phone back starting from the headphone port,  Photo-0024.jpg   45.33K   22 downloads and work your way around the phone,you should hear a clicking sound when the middle part connects with the surround.then replace the baby screws,put the sim,sd  card, and battery back and the battery cover on,and power up the phone! if the touch screen does not  work,you may not have the ribbon into the key way slot enough,(the white line has to go into it)sorry if what i wrote is a bit long winded,but try not to be afraid of repairing the phone.the first time i tried,i s%$t my self! lol! good luck!(and sorry about the spelling,as you can tell,im not use to comps! lol!)

thank for the great tutorial. Followed it steph by step and it worked.

However I'm noticing that no matter how many times I calibrate the screen it won't let me slide the notification bar down and won't register touches on the far right of the screen. It also takes harder presses to register what I'm trying to do when rearranging icons, think I need to open it up again and check the ribbon?

Fixed it. It was me. Going back to a resistive screen after capacitive is a bit of a shock lol

double sided tape for the touch screen turned up today,but the touch screen came with a snapped ribbon so i`m waiting for a new one to get to me.(should be a few days time hopefully!) so when everything is ready,i will do a new thread showing how to apply the touch screen to the surround.for those who need to know what size the tape is,its 2mm (you can get it from e-bay)

hey nice tut.... is there a way of replacing with a capacitive touch?

As far as I know, the racer only comes with a resisitive screen. Unless the racer 2 has the capactive screen. I haven't seen one.

ive been busy today,at some point today(or tomorrow) i will upload some pics how to remove (and apply) the screen from the surround.in the meantime,here is a link of how some one took the screen of the ZTE Blade/Francisco(youtube) (its the same way as the racer) yes! its a hair dryer! but trust me, it does work!

dear plzzzzz. tell me how to change mike of zte racer

the mic is connected to the board of the phone.(soldered on)i have seen some on ebay but that is a shop job  as if its come`s away from the board,the board maybe cracked.just like the screen(not the touch screen) (don`t ask me why zte put tape on the mic)if you look at the 10th pic on this post,(the screen/board)you can see the mic.so i say take it to the phone shop but i think they may charge you a lot! unless someone on here has changed the mic on they phone but the speaker just pops out.
