I am from India, I have 3 months old Idea ZTE-Blade.

Does this phone has 256 MB software limitation, if yes can it be changed?

It is Gen2 equipment with Android 2.2.2 and total system memory (RAM) is 166.36 MB.
Also it shows internal phone memory as 162.5 MB.

As per forum guide-lines I am asking this before trying anything.

Forum guidelines say to search before posting. It seems that it was only the Chinese blades which were locked to 256 MB ram. Do a quick search as I am sure this was asked before.
Internal memory can be changed slightly with a tpt.

Idea branded blades are chinese blades by hardware, aren't they?
If he applies an european TPT he could brick his phone!

yes they are Chinese blades if he had even googled it he would have found the answer I have answered it many times at xda
Applying European blade tpt will brick it.

Now I have successfully installed CM7.2 . The additions are enabling 256Mb swap on my class 4 SD card.
Also I have indic font which allows me to read Marathi.
