MBW-150 OLED Displays Failing?

Back in November we ran an article about a promotional price on the MBW-150 smart watch for a shave under £50 care of Mobile Fun.

From the responses we got on Twitter about the watch, it's clear that a number of our readers took up the offer and bought them. Less than six months later, we've had reports from a number of folk that the OLED displays are already failing

The above is from my personal MBW-150 taken in low-light (it's almost illegible in daylight now

and shows how brightness, particularly in the middle of the display has fallen considerably.

I've been using my MBW-150 daily and had personally begun to notice the display seemed dimmer, so I decided to do a little investigation.

It turns out that the watches went out of production a couple of years ago and the OLED display has a life of 2/3 years, so such failures due to OLED decay are about right, time-wise.

Now obviously we brought the promotion to everyones attention, so it's only right that we did a little investigation on behalf of our readers :)

The good news is that we've been in contact with MobileFun to discuss the situation and they've agreed that they will honor refunds under their 12 month guarantee of any MBW-150 exhibiting the above issue. Hurrah! B)

Didn't you read my comments on that November post?

I returned mine when it was delivered without even opening it, as I'd read about the displays failing within 12 months. Well done on getting your refunds though -- I would have kept it if I'd known I could have had a few months of fun first before getting a full refund!

Even I knew it for ages... OLED simply doesn't last that much... so what's the fuss? Buy a mechanical omega watch on ebay... after 30 years it will be twice the cost!
