Sony has confirmed that they will be updating the Tablet P and Tablet S to Android 4.0.3 in May. The two tablets haven’t been a commercial or critical success, with the Tablet S being a bit run-of-the mill and the tablet P featuring a unique clamshell design that hasn’t found favour with users.

The update will include some new features such as:

  • Standardization over the user interface used on both tablets

  • You can now edit from Gallery

  • Panoramic photos can now be taken from the lockscreen

  • Camera functions improved for taking both Videos and Photos

The update also brings with it “Small Apps” – small windowed apps that work much like those on Samsung’s TouchWiz UX. The closest analogy is of course to your standard desktop computer, and I like the idea that manufacturers are bringing elements from the desktop paradigm that weren’t broken, into the tablet space.

The three ‘Small Apps’ Sony have shown include a web browser, a calculator (easily the most sensible, I never need a calculator to take up the full screen) and a remote for Sony TV’s.

There may be more new features, but Google Translate is not fantastic. If there’s any native Japanese speakers out there, I’d love to see a translation :)
