So I contacted ZTE UK on twitter.
They were really helpful and put me in contact with the mobile team in China. Who realised it was a hardware fault and gave me the UK authorised repair contact centre number.
They logged the repair and sent out bag for the handset to be sent to the local service centre. I sent it off by post today and will up date you on my progress.
