Guest Konstipated Kiwi Posted April 28, 2012 Report Share Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) Having owned it for just over a week, my G300 has just developed a 'blob' in the middle of the screen. It reminds me of the kind of air bubble you sometimes get in poorly-applied screen protectors. I can't tell whether there is one applied or not and I don't want to scratch around the edges too much in case there isn't one and ragged edges voids my warranty. Can anybody confirm whether the G300 has a screen protector on by the manufacturer? I know my San Francisco had one on out of the box. It could be your digitiser is coming away though as its not very securely connected to the screen. It happened most when I pressed the back of the phone. Took battery out and pressed about a bit more and now it has gone. Something must be putting pressure on the screen from behind. Hope it doesn't happen again but will get more pictures if it does. I noticed a small white spec where the "hole" appeared. Can you take a close up of the place where the "hole" used to be? How are others finding the screen. I loved the screen on my Skate (bright and big) but I seemed hard to clean. Is the Gorilla glass much better? I think I have this on my Playbook and that screen is really easy to clean. The Skate seems to attract dirt and oil and clean with a micro firbe cloth works but then fluff from the cloth stick to the glass. Same cloth on the Playbook makes the screen look like new?! I can try taking a close up shot, but I don't think it will reveal anything. I am pleased to say that I have been carrying it around in my pocket as normal for the past week and the problem has not recurred. From the way the blog changed shape and size when I was pressing from the back with the cover off, it seemed to me that something was pressing into the screen from that side. I will take better pictures if it happens again. As for the glass, I have no problems cleaning it with a microfibre cloth. As you say, it looks like new with a quick wipe. Guest Konstipated Kiwi Posted May 9, 2012 Report Share Posted May 9, 2012 The blob returned again yesterday. I was not at home, so was unable to take pictures. Again, it was when I had been carrying it around in my jeans pocket. Blob was in the same place and similar size. After spotting it, I left the phone on the dashboard of my car (on a grab mat) while I drove to work and by the time I got there it had gone again. There was no need for me to poke around to sort it out this time; it just went of its own accord. I am assuming the vibrations from the car shifted whatever is causing it this time. However I don't think it was to do with the digitizer but more the plasticky case creaking a bit. Now I have the phone in a silicon case the clicking sound has completely gone. Guest Konstipated Kiwi Posted May 16, 2012 Report Share Posted May 16, 2012 The silicone cases do give these cheaper phones a more solid feel (they certainly improved the feel of my San Francisco) but the blob was back again yesterday despite the case and screen protector I have been using for the past few days. Once again I was able to get rid of it after a while by removing the back cover, battery and SIM card and pressing about a bit from that side; particularly in the area of the SIM card slot. The blob changed size and shape as I did so and, after a bit of persistence, disappeared completely. When it disappears, it looks as though it is being 'sucked' into a tiny hole, which seals up without trace. In other words, the blob shrinks rapidly and disappears, as opposed to the whole shape vanishing instantly. I'll try to capture it on video if it happens when I am at home. Typically, though, the only time the phone is in my pocket is when I am out and about, so have no access to cameras. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The blob appeared in the same position as in the image you posted, the phone had been in my pocket as well. When I tried pressing on the blob it got bigger and stretched out to the edges of the screen, like when you try to flatten out a screen protector. They looked like air bubbles under the screen protector at first. They changed in size when I pressed them. In the end I rubbed them quite hard with the edge of my finger and they disappeared. Because if you're sitting on it, you're bound to cause this to happen. In my case I am always extra careful where I put my phone just so that I don't scratch the phone, etc. I put it in my normal side pocket. If I have a travelling card/wallet always put it behind the back cover of the phone. Never ever place it infront of the screen. As chances are, not only it would scratch the screen, blobs like that may appear. Also don't put too much pressure on the screen, from anger or anything. :lol: If you already bought a protective case, well it's futile now. As the damage has already been done. You should ask for a replacement or repair, tbh or else you'll be suffering from this all year. And if not all year, psychologically it is torturing. Like you, I am extremely careful with my phones. £100 is not an inconsequential sum to me and I like to maximise resale value for when I wish to upgrade. I do generally keep it in a back pocket when walking because it is less irritating there. However, I have never, EVER, sat on it and on all three occasions the blob has appeared have been when carried in my side pocket. I didn't even keep it there for long. I never keep anything else in the pocket that holds the phone. I have treated all previous phones in this way and never had a problem. This and the fact that several others are reporting a similar occurence suggests that it is an inherent weakness with this model (perhaps only a certain batch or something). I have never read of anything like this with any other phone. I did order a silicone case and screen protector the day I bought the phone, but it took a couple of weeks to arrive. Sadly I can't return it now, as I have installed b888 and so can't revert to stock. I'll just have to live with it (unless it becomes permanent, in which case I'll have to flog it for sapres/repairs and save the pennies for a replacement). I am convinced its the digitiser touching the screen in one spot for some reason. If it was liquid, it would always leave a water stain or water marks from any inpurities contained in the water. It would also probably short out a few leds on the screen itself. Condensation will also fog up a larger area generally and not just pool in a single spot. Kiwi, I think Frankish mentions that there is a way to revert back to the Voda rom, that while it may not be totally complete, would probably be enough to for warranty to be accepted. I just have a vague memory of this, and I'm sure his comments are in one of these threads. I'm by far, no expert in this, so check it out for yourself, cause I could have it wrong.
