Microsoft Office coming to Android tablets in November?

Mobile news site 'Boy Genius Report' is quoting a source who claims that Microsoft Office is coming to Android tablets (and the iPad) in November this year, marking another foray for Microsoft into what some might consider opposing ecosystems.

Microsoft has always made sure that it's own products have what they consider 'best of breed' experiences for things such as Office and Exchange, but as relatively autonomous business units inside the company, they have also shown that they are not afraid to leverage the platforms of their rivals to drive up profits.

BGR claims that their source has had first hand experience of the iPad version of the Office suite, and it matches almost exactly the leak posted by 'The Daily' in February.

Functionality wise, the original leak claimed that Word, Excel and PowerPoint files can be created and edited locally and online and that OneNote will also be undergoing a facelift to coincide with the office release.

For me personally, this can only be a good thing - a quality app injection is certainly what Android tablets need. While third party solutions are in some cases half decent, a 100% Office compatible official Microsoft product would be a very welcome addition to the platform.

It's a good thing, but you always have to be wary of Microsofts embrace and destroy policy in previous years. It will make the Board of Directors happy though.
