Problems with FTM mode

When I am trying to get into FTM mode (Power ON+Volume Down) my ZTE RACER stops working and I cant get into ROM manager. Otherwise it starts normally and it's working fine, but because of that I cant make an upgrade. Is there any tool to repair this, or can someone tell me what to do?
