Let's get cracking on the San Diego bootloader - we CAN do it!

Hi guys. So, I fully respect that Paul has spent a lot of his own time and effort in trying to root/unlock the San Diego, for which we are all very thankful indeed :D

As Paul feels, at the moment, that his energy could be put to better use, I would like to know the following:

1/ What is "kboot" about, and what specifics make kboot "locked" (I know what a bootloader is, but locked bootloaders mean nothing to me, apart from the obvious; they're locked :P

2/ Who would be willing to lend/donate their San Diego OR help me raise funds for mine (I don't mind helping on other projects to do this).

I am an eager beaver, and I am determined NOT to let this beautiful, capable device get abandoned; all I seek is the appreciation of others that can benefit from the unlocked, rooted device, not money or "geek cred" (although that is still nice, it is not my driving force).

God bless! Keep me posted!!

It is unlikely it will be cracked with the bootloader so locked down,no devs will buy this :(

Even so,I have ordered one today because based on specs to price ratio it is an amazing device.and has everything I need,so root and custom roms does not bother me(have g300 for that)

Can anyone who has this device say if games from market are compatible ? Gta3,max payne, those kind of games.

GTA III works very well on it, no lag or stuttering or anything like that. Not tried Max Payne but I would guess its a similar story for that.

Know anyone inside Orange who can sign an engineering bootloader?

Good luck finding someone... people who work at orange will never help us...

If you're willing to share how you plan you to approach the task, maybe we can try things in your behalf until you get one.

My research has been very extensive and there's no stone left unturned I know of at least...

This had crossed my mind.If paul cannot do it then it is going to be a difficult/impossible task for another to do,seeing as this is not exactly your first time paul,we can safely say,you know what you are doing and saying. You say bootloader is locked and staying locked,as much as I want to disbelieve you,I know this is most likely going to be a hopeless exercise.

The only chance we have here is if orange/intel leak something that can help or open new windows/paths to go down, that or some quad-quantum minded linux genius comes our way

I'm not saying it can't be done... but I agree our best bet is going to be some like minded Intel / Gigabyte / Orange insider probably. :D

Bootloader locked ? Look at TPT Helper app which is available in the Play Store and totally designed for ZTE Phones to flash clockworkmod in it , if they can do that why not developing a specific App to crack the San Diego ?

TPT helper!

I dont think it is that simple, bootloader is locked so how would tpt helper do anything ?

You could probably fastboot recovery to the san diego I would think, but it would not work or would brick the device.

You don't get it. I was talking about a similar app like TPT Helper but only for the San Diego

Yeah I do get it,the bootloader is locked and an app cannot change that!

I would like to here how tpt helper or an app like it for the san diego will unlock bootloader ?

And for the record tpt helper did not crack the bootloader on zte devices.

Tpt helper changes partition sizes, that is the apps purpose, making an app to basically tpt the san deigo will without doubt brick it.

I thought of this too, kind of a back door if you like.

I for one will not be abandoning my OSD because there is always a chance that some leak will give the info/tools required to free the OSD.

And an OSD that is free, rooted,sd card working will be a seriously good device and one of the best android bargains,if not the best.

Android history has shown, secret info always ends up in the hands of the devs,as there are insiders who understand :)

What we need is to keep an eye on some of these forums where this device is made.Like with my G300 a lot of roms are coming from a chinese android forum. There is always the chance that another forum has a user with inside help.

Get your goolge translate on and eyes open!

I think it would be better if this device was released in China

It pretty much has in the shape of the Lenovo K800. However, it depends on how closely Lenovo have stuck to the reference design and whether or not they have it locked down as much as Orange seem to have done.
