Paranoid Android - tablet UI hybrid ROM based on CyanogenMod9

This ROM is no longer being supported nor developed. I recommend migrating to ParanoidJelly that I am maintaining these days.

http://www.modaco.co...id-412-19012013

This is my build of Paranoid Android for Skate.

PA team finally made the necessary framework part of the source code opensource. This means that this ROM has been

fully built from source. No hacky cross porting from other devices at all - this means no bugs caused by porting anymore.

The sources of this ROM (including all features additionally coded/ported by me) is fully available on github.

ROM: https://github.com/ParanoidZTE

Kernel: https://github.com/C...ate_35/tree/ics

Device config: https://github.com/C...evice_zte_skate

Tablet mode is configured for Browser and Calculator by default. It's up to the user to tweak the paranoid parameters as desired.

Before you start changing the settings you should know about the following issues I came across:

- Phone app crashes when initiating call in case it has set lower DPI than 190. I do not recommend changing the configuration of Phone mode and DPI because it could render the app unusable.

- the same applies to Google Quicksearchbox. Leave it on default DPI otherwise lower values will cause FCs

If you want this ROM to behave as generic CM9 without paranoid features you can turn off hybrid mode in

Settings / Paranoid settings. This will disable paranoid framework and rom will become standard CM9 with phone layout and default DPI.

Not working

- Camera flash

- FM radio

Check out the second post for Changelogs and potential updates.

Changelogs

Changelog 15/12/2012

- merged with the latest CM9 sources

- fixed YouTube reboots

- Hardware rendering settings:

Allows controlling of HW rendering individually for any application.

This is useful for applications having the "blank white screen"

bug (gmail, facebook, ...). Turning off HW rendering for these applications

eliminates the white screen bug. As a side effect, the application UI

will become a bit more laggy - feels almost like gingerbread.

It's also important to know that some apps might crash when HW rendering

is disabled for them. If reboot doesn't fix crashing then keep HW rendering enabled.

- added utilization of copybit to accelerate 2D rendering

- added definition files for atmel and focaltech touchscreens

(eliminates on-screen pointer on some devices)

- updated German and Spanish translations

- new gapps package with updated Play store

- possible to upgrade from previous build. Refer to upgrade instructions in the first post.

You can change all density settings in Paranoid settings.

This is amazing though :) super fast, no lag, best of both worlds really :)

The only issue I have, although it isn't a game changer, is the camera zoom not working >.<

I need this goodness! :P Wish my phone would get out of repairs soon (sent it 3 weeks ago, it's taking ages).

So this is just CM9 but with hybrid tablet mode? All the additions of CM9 (like the custom lockscreen) remain? Or is it more like AOSP with hybrid tablet mode?

Basically, it is ICS. (CM9) with the tablet layout mixed in.

Edit.

Search force closes. (in tablet mode)

Did it take ages to boot for anyone else and then default country set as US?

It always takes a long time first time round. You can also change the default country. I suppose you accidentally clicked set?..

If you're from the UK, go to settings, language and input. Change as appropriate.

Edit again.

YouTube will never be HQ Compatible for our skate in ICS. Moan at Qualcomm for being so unhelpful, not our developers.

I never did like the android tablet UI. (not ICS, I believe it was honeycomb) but this has totally changed my view. Love it :) can't wait for a more stable, feature rich release...

First boot takes ages. But after that it boots fast.

@iReece

That's why it's still experimental. The problem is that PA team is releasing sources step by step and at the same time

they are making rather large changes for upcoming 1.5 version so it's a real mess (they completely changed the format of variables

in pad.prop for example). I am surprised I got it working at all.

I am still missing some essential code in framework (probably related to DPI in Paranoid settings) since it wasn't merged

at the time I synced and made a build. Anyway I believe this will get improved over time. We need to wait for all the sources

to be released and version 1.5 to be officially announced

@all

For better experience, hold your phones in landscape when tablet mode is turned on. It's much better than on portrait.

Skate's screen is still too small compared to tablets :)

No. This will be the end of all YouTube HQ questions. Sorry to be blunt but if we stop it now, it won't plague this thread like it does CFX thread

OK. Some things that do not work for me so far

- System settings - unable to set notification power widgets - they get ignored - the default 4 widgets are always shown

- Settings / Lockscreen - force closes when trying to set lockscreen shortcuts.

Can we create a bug list of know bugs?..

YouTube - no HQ. not a bug, but something to be noted.

Camera zoom doesn't work.

Tablet search doesn't work.

Setting DPI and UI for apps in hybrid mode doesn't work, must do so manually.

Power widgets don't work.

Lock screen selection doesn't work.

Edit.

Also, a few features?

I.e. speed? Hybrid stuff etc?..

I do think we need a new boot logo... I hid the recent CM9 one because I would have felt more manly singing Justin Bieber's song on the bus than watch the new cm9 boot logo...

Edit. More bugs.

Launcher (trebuchet) with tablet mode switched on (through launcher, general, tablet effects) the page is too large to change pages when holding an app or widget.

Download link goes straight to goo but notification flags up download failed.

Perhaps it just got interrupted?

Also, are you going through the Goo app or the browser? If one doesn't work, try the other. If neither works, use your computer.

Sounds as an extreamly interesting and exiting ROM...Just one question, should MMS works in this ROM?

Thanks in advance.

Yep. Just tested it,

Everything works fine.

Gone through browser cannot see the file in goo manager.

When you go to the site, it should offer to open in goo manager as well. Try this, if it fails, try another browser. If that fails, try a computer.
