No luck ...does any one know how to access the root of the phone and copy those files out...not too sure

What happened??

Did you have CWM to flash the ROM zip you made from your Nandroid??

Did the procedure I linked fail to produce a flashable zip of your Nandroid??

When you say the root of the phone, have you tried with a Root Explorer, like ES??

Your Nandroid should have copied everything on the phone, as it would need to have all partitions to restore phone to state it was at when Nandroid was made.....so am I misunderstanding something??

well basically

what i have done so far

copied the back up i made through CWM and zipped it up but it can only be restored if it extracted not as a zip

I see you posted the Nandroid restore.....sorry if the flashable zip thing didn't work out!!!

I think restoring it via CWM should be Ok....as you said Black Notes by Rio worked fine with my other Sammy device, gt-i8150.....

I have a Voda Ireland Ascend with B886 FW which is what they sell with here.....

I may look into making a CWM Flashable zip if it is of any help to folks here??

I have not done anything apart from remove the Game Demos, rooted and SIM unlocked....so it is pretty pristine :D

ok, here are two empty rom .zip's you can use

one is for gingerbread roms and the other for ics roms

gingerbread-roms.zip

ics-roms.zip

so, all you need from your clockwork mod backup is the system.img & boot.img

first you will need the system.img unpacked, i use this http://www.solidfile...m/d/4178efa9b0/

so after unpacking the system.img you should have a system folder,

now its easy, just open one of the .zip's above (do not extract, just open it)

drag and drop the system folder & boot.img into the .zip

done.

now the zip should should like this.

META-INF

system

boot.img

if you have problems or unsure how to do something just ask and i will try to help ;)

That's fantastic tillaz, thanks indeed.....

I am going to make a CWM flashable zip of this Vodafone Ireland B886 GB 2.3.6 ROM....

AFAIK, the UK Stock ROM version is B885, with sound problems??

I will restore all VF Bloat, to keep it right, or not, what do you think??

Also, it is rooted as per Paul's method, but there was no BusyBox install obviously, so I installed one free from Market, Stericsons, for my own use.

I will probably need to remove this, as I am not sure re licensing, but is there any free-to-distribute BusyBox installer which could be included in the ROM, or should I leave it up to ppl to get their own from market or wherever??

B885 is the rom where the sound problem was fixed.

Your right of course Mack, I was confusing the original UK Stock ROM FW number, B882??

Anyway, B886 was never available in UK as Official Stock ROM, AFAIK, and it does incorporate Sound fix, and perhaps other things??

It's just because Ascend was released by VF in Ireland only relatively recently, after UK launch.

[probably cheaper here, if you have PAYG SIM to port new VF number to, €20 discount, making it €109, or about £86 UK, free delivery if ordered on-line]

Any views about the BusyBox question I posed??

hmm well i would say leave and let others install it themselves,no point adding something that might be removed anyway.

but to cover your back make sure you state that its not included, that way you are not liable for damages
