The Amazon App Store is now available in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The Amazon App Store can be downloaded by following the instructions at www.amazon.com/getappstore and then logging in with an existing Amazon account or creating a new one.

Features such as "Free App of the Day" and "Recommendations" are available in the aforementioned European countries from today.

Could this be a precursor to the launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire (or its successor) in the EU, or might it be the preparing the launch of the rumoured Amazon smartphone? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Don't forget to follow our @aafaotd Twitter account to find out about the daily free apps as soon as they are available!

+1 - I would love to know how please - all the evidence online seems to say it can't be done.

Or is it possible to run them both side by side, as I'm sure they'll feature different apps of the day.
