Can't root or CWM B940

Have been on B888 (original, not Paul's rejig) for months; it's the only update I have ever done. Took the plunge today and used the middle update file (via storage menu) to 'make the phone more compliant' and successfully installed the B940 using the same method (i.e manual rather than forced update). All went smoothly and got the ROM working no probs.

Would like to try some custom ROMS but can't get root access nor install CWM. On Windows 7 I have tried using a file called Unlockbootloader (by Genokolar) and a file called RootG300 without any success. The debugging option is ticked and fastboot is deselected. Selecting "ROOT your phone" in the former runs the process but the window closes and there is no sign of SuperUser. I also tried the "Unlock BOOTLOADER" option to no avail, so can't install CWM. With RootG300 the prog runs but phone reboots with no sign of superuser afterwards. The installation text from both programmes indicates that there is no space left on the device. Also, Titanium Backup indicates System ROM uses 390Mb with 0MB remaining. Of course, I can't remove any system files, as advised here, without root access. Nor can I flash the superuser ZIP as advised here without CWM.

Am a little bit stuck here. Is there any more information that would make diagnosis easier?

Really!!? Are you sure? I can confirm that I am definitely on ICS. "About Phone" shows Baseband version to be 2030. I'm sure I've read that flashing the Gingerbread root files to an ICS installation can result in a brick.

It will be fine.

Try one of the other stock roms, unlock bootloader, install CWM, FULL WIPE & FORMAT, then install custom rom of your choice. Worth a try. Avoid B926 as it's known to have poroblems.
