Can't connect to ad-hoc hotspots (Wi-Fi network)?

I am trying to connect my G300 to an ad-hoc network I created on my laptop (to share a 3g modem).

The phone doesn't even see the network.

From what I read on the internet, some Android phones can do that, some do not and need some modifications.

Anyone did this or know how to?

Thanks!

Here's a guide to how it's done, if anyone wants to try it...

I've tried a few ready-cooked "wpa_supplicant"s and apps which just borked the wifi.

The thing is Android can easily connect to these kinds of networks, but for "security reasons" has been designed to filter them out. The trick is to bypass this filtering, which can be achieved in a number of ways (see above link) if you know how to compile the code and patch.

Seems improbable that will work for me if Tillaz didn't manage to do it yet, which I am sure knows so much more then me about this.

I would love to be able to do this though, is useful sometimes.

Yes it would be very useful to me for tethering from laptop to phone using a 3G dongle, from phone to tablet using Barnacle, or phone to phone. Let's hope Tillaz can work his magic ;)
