Bin4ry has made a method which takes advantage of a flaw in adb restore to allow rooting without a format or bootloader unlocking. I've tested this on my Xperia U and my Nexus 7, and both are rooted and working great.
How-To:
1.) Download attached file.
2.) Extract it using 7zip
3.) Double click the RunMe.bat and follow instructions!
Please use this version in the QR code here (v13):
There are reported issues with later versions.
