Hello there,

I currently own a ZTE Crescent and the development community is unfortunately fading due to Qualcomm not releasing what we need to progress the ROMs any further so my hunt for a new device is on. I have a budget under £150 and I want a armv7 phone with a decent sized screen (3.5"-4") and it seems like the G300 is perfect.

How's the rooting/flashing clockwork process? And are all the ROMs fully functional?

• ICS requires a bootloader unlock, but other than that it flashes in the same way
  
• All the stock stuff *works*, it's not fantastic (I think many will agree) but it works, CM is nearly complete

If you can get yourself down to Tesco's you may get one for £60, otherwise you may have problems finding one at a good price.

Its a good phone but no official ICS and Jelly Bean is not complete but useable if you can live without a few things.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for and this is not a quality built phone, its not bad but its not good either.

Well we have ICS from Huawei (not UK yet), and it fully works, unlike on the crescent, where it doesn't. Just not as tuned as we'd hoped yet. Still very usable. Daz has allegedly cracked JB and that is in testing before release. We're expecting that to address the shortcomings of Huawei's efforts.

It's simple. This phone has great price per performance ratio when it comes to hardware. This is great phone for the price. When it comes to software you would want to use some custom rom as Huawei are not really good at the software work.

Tesco discontinued the G300 weeks ago, and stock also dried up very quickly. It will be impossible to find it at Tesco now.

They've removed all traces of it completely in my nearest Tesco's, it was only there about 3 weeks!

Tesco Dover, Ramsgate and Canterbury all still stock the G300.

Sainsbury's stock it also.

If you want a phone, get a jiayu G3. I'm getting one for christmas <img src='http://www.modaco.co...R#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

It has dual core 1.2 ghz processor, 1g ram, 4.5 inch HD ips screen with gorilla glass, dual sim, 8mp and 2mp cameras, ICS, rooted and it has a metal alloy body and plastic backplate. And with all of this, it only costs about £120.

As has been discussed elsewhere the phones from Asia are taking off in a big way but have the downfall of returns etc and questionable specs but there is undoubtedly bargains to be had. Nice though<br />

I've been swayed by this phone myself. However I may go with the G2 instead - a smaller 4" IPS panel and 2000mAh battery. It's about a 100 pounds.

But this phone may never get community support similar to the Blade. Those days are over I guess.

you wuld be crazy not to get the g300 top top phone from uk smashis alother buget phones ,its always a risk byeiing unbranded china teck, saying that they are getting better ts  risk iwould not take

The way I look at it, at a price of 100 pounds any phone is relatively disposable. Therefore some calculated experimentation is alright (for me anyway).

The Jiayu G2, priced at a 100 pounds, has the following advantages:

1. A 1GHz Dual core CPU as opposed to the single core on the Huawei
2. A 2000mAh battery as opposed to 1500mAh
3. Dual sim capability
4. A 4" IPS screen as opposed to regular TFT (though admittedly some may consider this a disadvantage)
5. 1GB RAM vs 512MB
6. Almost vanilla ICS to start
7. Free shipping across the world

So why not eh?

Seems like your looking for reasons not to get said phone. Undoubtedly vfm nut what would stop me is

Return could be a issue if problems developed

Dev community. Miui is nice but i like a choice of roms(with the m series)

Some specs, particularly camera, can be questionable

Build quality can be suspect


Also anything that i buy that dont come in a proper box but bubble wrap ect doesn't fill me with confidence. This is me however. If there was a reliable seller with stock in uk that would be a different matter entirely.

Bear in my this is based on phones from asia in general and not 1 specific and that things are improving with time

I have used many phones in past 10 years, and G300 is absolutely one of the best. Very good hardware specs for a low price, great support in Android community, official Huawei ICS support, you can't ask for much more, right?
