What's the new favourite budget phone?

My sister's thinking of replacing her Blade (I know, traitor!) for Xmas as she's fed up of crap 3G battery life and was wondering what's the new < £200 favourite Android?

The Skate, Crescent, Moto Defy+ and Huawei G300 that I could think of look a bit old now.

She'd want ARMv7 and stock ICS (JellyBean via CM10 is fine). More than 512mb RAM would be nice too as she's always running out of space even with move-to-SD.

Are the cheaper Moto Droid, LG Optimus, Sony Xperia or Samsung Galaxy models worth looking at?

Not interested in 2nd hand or on contract.

Has to be SIM/bootloader unlockable and rootable.

Probably completely the wrong place to put this, but its the place i hangout and respect the opinions of you lot

How about 1Ghz dual core,1Gb Ram,4.5in antiscratch HD screen 1280x720,memory card slot(try to fin it in Nexus 4),unlocked bootloader.

Price?£155 delivered.

the umi x1 is indeed a nice phone with that MT6577 chip but a quadcore a7 1.2ghz with SGX544 chip (MT6589) is out soon, those are 28nm too so better battery life aswell as great graphics and good cpu.

I've ordered a Jiayu G2. The dual core 1GHz version with 1GB RAM, 2000mAh battery and dual sim.

It's slightly more than a 100 pounds and can be rooted easily.

I haven't got it yet. Will post a short review when I try it out.

I'm a ZTE Blade user and I really want to upgrade to the G2 but I'm put off by the lack of a modding community (I've been a bit spoiled for choice with the devs on the Blade). Do you know if ROMs for the ZTE V970 could work with the G2? (Both use the MT6577 and have 1GB of RAM.)

The posts from the uredeal website in the comments section say that it isn't rooted. The seller says it isn't rooted because it could damage the phone.

This code reduces the price by $15: usd15offGizchina that should bring it down to around £146 ish i think.

I'll probably buy an Alcatel OT 995 Ultra for about £130.

It seems nice enough and cheap enough at the moment.

I have heard about a lot of issues where the home, menu and back keys backlight bleed through the screen.

If you could kill the light then it wont be a problem, but this might not be possible. I once had an old Huawei with the exact same problem, and the backligt could not be controlled.

If that is a problem i'll return it, where i'm from i have 30 days to return it even if i opened it and tried to fix it myself. ;)

I'm not so sure it's a problem with the newest version since i have tried it and it wasn't a problem, but perhaps i just didn't look properly.

Anyway, i've decided i want a 1GB phone anyway, so... i'll revisit this thread... however at the specs and price... i might just buy an OT-995 Ultra anyway.
