How to solve YouTube video embedding issues on Modaco (October 2012)

For the last week, I have had problems when embedding YouTube videos on Modaco. Usually, you just drop in the link and it works... but YouTube have borked something (it fails on Facebook too, and even so with this following method!):

For now it seems the ONLY way for the video to embed is to use "http://youtu.be/<vid.../<videoIDHere>" syntax - DON'T CLICK THAT LINK - IT'S AN EXAMPLE :P (without quotes " ")
