CM 7 vs ICS or JB

Hi,

first of all i want to say that i tried all the custom ROMS that are on this forum.

As the topic says i cannot understand why people want to install ICS or JB on a Blade when it seems clear to me that it cannot handle that O.S.

All the time i install a JB or ICS Rom I feel that my phone is so slowed down. I try CM10 or CM9 every new release and i have to say that ,yes since the first release the rom is improved and is more fast, but still too slow compared to CM7.

Now this thread is not to just to trolling around but to understand if maybe I'm doing something wrong and missing the real advantages of the new operating system. Some advices ?

Thanks

Either your phone has 256mb ram or its effed up pretty bad! CM7 or for that matter ANY GB rom is slow in front of ICS or JB! After I switched to ICS in the early builds I went back to SS RLS 7(better than CM7) due to some early issues with ICS but I went back to ICS after just 5 mins of installing SS. GB is THAT slow. At least for me it is! JB will become more fast after the vSync fix!

JB and ICS have hardware acceleration which CM7 doesnt have...

Which results in a (almost)buttery UI and smooth experience...

CM7 is a good rom but the scrolling is an eyesore....

ICS and JB are smoother because of accelerated UI, but it demands more RAM... so, depending on how you use your phone, switching between application might be slower... but still, ICS is smoother... especially on our WVGA-screened phone

JB will become more fast after the vSync fix!

I don't think that vsync will ever be fixed (on 60 fps), because all vsync do is reducing the framerate to commensurate the 60Hz refresh rate of the display, to eliminate tearing...

if our hardware can't achieve much more than 60 fps without vsync, then vsync will only slowed down our phone.. well I might be wrong

You are correct, vsync will eliminate tearing by adjusting the speed of drawing the frame thus slowing it down.

I agree CM7 is way faster then CM9/10 because CM7 is very simple clean and uses very less resources unlike polished CM9/10, you can take idea in speed while opening contacts/messaging and diller, on CM7 they open almost instantly but on CM9/10 they ages at least 5 seconds to show which is a pain. i would say better tolerating laggy UI then slower performance.

5 seconds to open an app?lol?

Your phone must be super slow cause here on my phone apps open in an instant on CM10 ;)

I always end up installing CM7, but for my JB is the best overall in 4.X roms, if we install the rom Burstlam, we find a super rom ICS almost level, connects to the network faster wifi, transitions between apps and the OS are not so forced and do not give the feeling that everything is on your side as in ICS. Now if you have the big handicap that all works, as in Gingerbread and the battery issue that seems to be the solution to some problems of consumption.

Still have mokee on my nand, it's smoother than JB will ever be and everything works, with the new kernel i have battery life on par with LeWa too.

But i'm running new ICS and JB's on loops just because it's nice to watch progress in real time rather than just reviewing code.

Refuse to use any non open source ROM though, so Burstlams work is out of the question unfortunately.

first... i think ICS is faster than GB on my Blade.

second.. you are comparing 2 different apps for their opening time... the ICS people app is way more complex than the GB one ;) way more.. it even shows google+ status and photos in it ;)

third.. battery life on standby is way better on ICS if no bugs are found.

Yeah, the interface is smoother but GB is faster on running apps and there is no opinion to be had on this fact.

Battery life is better on proper GB's too, mainly because it is better on RTI for obvious reasons and also because it's code is not a hacked together almost working version of what was never meant to be run on the ARM6.

Try this, install Mokee and use the kernel i posted in that thread, you'll have better performance in the interface and in ALL apps than in ICS and you will have battery life up to three times as good, this isn't a coincidence, it was made with sparse memory in mind and it is faster than all other ROM's out there in every instance because of it.

again you are comparing different things.

on ics multitasking is way better than on gb and way faster! its true that if you have different apps open then on ics each will be slower because the others in the background are getting "more attention" than on gb. but if only have one that shouldn't happen.

But if you'll use apps that use open max then the battery hog and sluggish comes out but that's because it's hacked code not intended to be run on this soc but that will get better as the bridge of code gets better. But in my daily use I rarely use apps that use open max so no problem here.

What I'm missing is tethering.. I can't get get ap mode to work on any app only ad hoc

But I'll try that Mokee, where can I find it?

GB ROM is faster I agree even if I don't think about ui there are lot of thigs which makes cm9 or cm 10 my fav. Like we have paranoid ROM Miui v4 ROM and aokp ROM which can be ported only on android 4.+ . Whereas in GB ROM options are limited..

CM7 has 100% fluid gui, apps load instantly, instead of 2 - 4 seconds delay and battery life is far better.

I decided to stop my hunt for upgrades recently. As much as I love the look of Jellybean, I realized: what good is smartphone if it only works half-way? I'll keep my Blade to CM7 / Swedish Snow RLS 7. It really seems the old ZTE Blade comes to an end at this version. I also prefer the CM7/SS7 to the Eco/MokeeOS releases, since the latter ones are restricted to 1 language only or contain untranslated remnants.

Well, the Eco Cm7 build is just the latest cm7 with some tweaks and a patch for mms. So, it is a little bit more updated than the latest stable cm7.2, with all languages and all translations ever done to cm7 repo so far.. :)

Yes, the thing about MMS is interesting, didn't think about it. About the languages - this isn't true: I have seen mixed languages on my display with the Eco build while the Swedish Snow 7 had everything translated. E.g. instead of german it was partly english. It's not that I wouldn't understand it, but as I am considering giving the phone away to people who only know german this is a no-go.

While thinking about it, maybe this language mixture happened on Launcher Pro / its menus only (I am not 100%, but this actually would make sense). The rest of the menus seemed to be translated.

Yes, the Launcher Pro is not translated since the code is not open-source nor public. The rest is cm7 as I told you already..

But if Launcher Pro translations are a no-go, you can install the ADW Launcher from the Eco cm7 first post (which will also remove LauncherPro from /system/app) or you can install another launcher from Google Play.

And if you find untranslated german (besides LauncherPro) you can always translate it yourself and submit your patches to cyanogenmod gerrit review.

Hi,

recently i think about installing new rom to my RBM One (rebull's version of european zte) and I can't decide which one to install. I think about:

- CM7.2 (latest nightly)

- CM10 - Konstat's version,

- CM 9 - also by Konstat.

Yeah, I know that on CM7.2 everything works etc, and is most stable rom, but i like the way that ICS and JB look. I've never used neither tethering (wifi or usb) nor FM Radio, and I don't play games on my phone, but I use camera often and listen to the music a lot. Which one would be the best (especially from CM9 and 10- in the case of stability and speed.
