I brought a g300 for a mate yesterday. It's on GB Vodafone uk, fully unlocked from shop. First thing I did was to check for updates, after 2-3 little updates finally it got big 1 to ICS.

Decided to as normal grab a nice custom rom. All my other mobiles, htc desire, Samsung galaxy s2 and htc one x this was a easy thing...try a few and decide on ur fav.

But with the g300 I'm a little lost on understanding all this baseband and B*** stuff. I did check before Systrm info before. My baseband was 8030 and think it was running B936.

Decided to flash infusion b05. But I don't understand why some ppl are flashing different RIL. Also is B944 the latest ICS rom?

Baseband 2030 is ics it will be in about phone.I think infusion is based on b944 official ics witch many people think is the best version. If u want to flash the ril it has to be the one matching the last official update u done

Some people was getting random reboots so flashing the ril may fix that so if u need to flash ril it would have to be the b936 ril as that was the last official update you done

It should not be too different from other phones. Pretty much every smart phone has two CPUs, one handles the radio part (called baseband), and the other one the user interface (using a version of Android). Both need to talk to each other, and that's why Android has a Radio Interface Layer (RIL) module, which has to match the baseband. The ZTE Blade has the same - Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3 are different versions of the baseband.

The G300 is a bit more complicated, because it seems that Huawei is messing around with the RIL in different ICS builds (B926 to B944), resulting in slightly different 3G speeds. I wonder whether they also changed the baseband (all called version 2030), although I think that is unlikely.

In general B944 is the latest available Android version from Huawei, I think it is slightly better than the official Vodafone release B936, and Infusion is again an improvement over the B944 Huawei version. But all ICS ROMs have serious memory management issues, that will slow down the system to a crawl, and the only solution is a reboot.
