I bought a new G300 from Vodafone in-store and surprisingly it was already unlocked

I would not call it simple - it takes half an hour even if everything goes fine (maybe a bit less if you are upgrading to stock ICS anyway). But it does work, so it may reduce the demand for unlock codes.
