Swiftkey have released the Beta version of their much anticipated 'Flow' update, which brings Swype / Android 4.2 style 'Flow' typing to the popular 3rd party input method.

Today we’re making SwiftKey Flow beta available and we’re very excited about it. SwiftKey Flow is so much more than another gesture input keyboard. It redefines touchscreen typing with a series of incredible innovations.

Most notably, SwiftKey Flow lets you write an entire sentence without letting go of the screen. All you need to do is pass your finger over the space bar between each word that you trace out. Let SwiftKey Flow do the rest, and you’ll see the words you want magically appear on the screen. We call this ‘Flow Through Space’.

So as many of you can try the SwiftKey Flow beta as possible, we’ve made it so that all you need to is download the following APK(s) and install them on your devices. But please do remember to come back to our VIP community and give us feedback; we rely on this to refine the beta and make Flow as awesome as possible.

SwiftKey Flow is very versatile, predicting the word you may want from the moment you begin to glide your finger on the screen. Just let go when the word you want appears. The keyboard also seamlessly integrates with SwiftKey’s classic tap engine, adapting the touch-sensitive areas of the keyboard to your tapping style to boost accuracy. And of course, the keyboard incorporates SwiftKey’s famous next word predictions.

Your feedback is vital to this beta being a success. Evan Tapper, SwiftKey’s Community Manager, sums it up best: “Our community is a vital part of this process. We rely on their feedback to ensure the product is in the best possible shape before it hits the market. But it’s about more than that – it’s about engaging with our users and building products that people really love to use.”

So please, join us and be a part of making SwiftKey even better. We’re looking forward to hearing what you think!

To try out the application, download the APK directly either for your phone or tablet. I've installed on my Nexus 4 and I have to say that although i'm not generally a fan of swipe based input, it does seem to work well and of course tapping on the keyboard works as brilliantly as ever (SwiftKey is my keyboard of choice).

SwiftKey would also like to remind fans that that today is the last day to nominate SwiftKey in the TechCrunch 2012 Crunchies... ;)

Have to say, I was an ardent fan of SwiftKey until I got the Nexus 4 but have found the 4.2 keyboard to be pretty nice to use. I've downloaded the beta of this and so far it does seem to be the best of both; Lovely swiping action but with much better corrections and suggestions.

Any idea on the final price?

Is it confirmed if it will be a separate app or an upgrade to SwiftKey 3?
They did upgrade from X to 3 for free...
And it is constantly the bestselling app anyway.

If it's separate I hope they offer some kind of discount for us loyal users. Not that they have to of course but they seem the kind of nice company that might.

To be honest, I would gladly pay for this update. It's absolutely amazing, very fun and so easy to use. Wrote on my new SwiftKey Flow.

Well, I originally bought SwiftKey X on sale first (and SK3 goes on sale quite regularly as well) and I was more than glad to pay full price for the Tablet version (which seem to never be on sale ;))
I don't want to re-purchase both of them for full-price though...

I use Thumb Keyboard (Or Motorola Bluetooth Keyboard - with External Keyboard Helper pro). I used to use the hacker's keyboard before I got the Bluetooth one.

Swiftkey doesn't have enough predictions to get what I want correct far too often for my liking.

It is like the whole prediction engine is tailored for ZOMG LOL ROFL pink :);):D type people.

I think swiftkey has the best predictions/autocorrect . Flow works well, but I don't find it any quicker than normal typing, I have it installed, but I doubt I'll use it.

It's going to take me a while to get used to this. I came to swiftkey from swype - initially loved swype but was won over by the versatility of swiftkey - the predictions are great, but often I don't want the automatic suggestion so pick one of the other two. I miss the same facility when swiping in this beta, but then again, it is quick. It's always going to be a trade off between speed and accuracy - it's just going to take me a while to figure how i can best use the two techniques - ultimately i guess it will be flow then type when that lets me down

Hm, I've tried it now, but it seems to be a battery hog.
Look at your battery indicator. I've deinstalled it and battery is fine after that.

Have you seen this, too?

For me it doesn't seem as smooth and responsive using a normal typing style as SwiftKey 3 but the swiping action is nice and smooth.

They said on twitter that it would be an upgrade to SwiftKey X but didn't say it would be a free upgrade. However in the past every version of SwiftKey has had free updates so I don't see this being any difference personally.

I really like it but the combination of the battery hog and the difficulty of changing the wrong word means ie can't be a daily driver for me.

Jesus is it quick though.

SwiftKey Flow keyboard is awesome but I don't like it when the prediction does not work sometimes on the browser on swype the gesture swpying worked all the time, it's not very good at getting double Letters words, you can't gesture swipe numbers.
