some reason if i use browser or opera mini after loading pages a few times or typing it will just crash and close the app down and i hardly any apps installed at all and when i goto running ram it says 353mb used but i checked whats using it and all i can see is 5 apps that just show each using about 8mb or 5mb ram so i dont understand where its all going

Haven't you looked around the forums? The vodafone ICS build is the worst build yet. It has no hardware acceleration and it is buggy in general.
I reccomend installing cm9 as it fixes pretty much everything, and it adds lots of features that no other stock ROM has.

Even with 9 apps open in the background, I still have 135 MB of ram free. I'm using CM9.

Cm9 brings it's own problems. Faster battery drain, scrambled text, in call volume problems, drops data connection. It's still good but read the cm9 thread first. Cidars stock+ is a good alternative. I have 11 apps shown as running and 123 mb free.

The only issue I have on cm9 is rare text issues which can't be fixed on cm9 but they never last long anyway.
