Hello,

I'm looking for a bargain replacement for my ZTE blade.

Most important are battery life and design/build quality, but also the other features should at least be on par with what I have now. Looking through Chinese import websites I found the following phones interesting. Now I wonder which has the best buck/bang balance:

1. Jiayu G2 with 512MB RAM at 146$

2. Jiayu G2 with 1GB RAM at 175$

3. ZTE U950 at 200$ (just found out the 3G module only works in China!)

4. LG Nexus 4 at 299$ (only if there is one available in NYC/Philadelphia around New Year, otherwise 299 EUR...)

Of course I'd also appreciate other proposals or hints, where to get those phones cheaper!

Thanks for your advice!

I have a G2 with 1GB ram, really like it but if I was buying now maybe my choice would be the G3 (looks so much sleeker and the screen is higher resolution), around $205-$210.

Not saying the G2 is not good enough looking or the screen is in any way poor (it's pretty good in fact) but if you have the extra $30 or so it's probably worth the upgrade to the G3.

Not really sure what you 'lose' with the 512MB version of the G2 (at the price you quote it could be the single core version so probably noticably slower?), I'd say go for the dual core (MTK6577, not MTK7575). If you go for a G2, I'd most definitely recommend a package with 2 batteries and a desk charger, I get better battery life when charged in the desk charger and it's so handy to have a fully charged battery to hand. I've now managed over 3 days on a single charge (2050mAh battery).

G2S should also be appearing soon, possibly also worth a look.

Aliexpress.com was great for sourcing my phone (use a seller with good feedback, escrow payment provides fair security). Got mine from Desoon Technology (via Aliexpress), no problems at all for me.

Thanks a lot for your feedback on the G2!

Both G2 variants have the MTK6577. Only difference seems to be the RAM.

G2S seems to only be an overclocked G2 with higher screen resolution (cf. GizChina).

I looked at the G3 and especially liked the massive 2750mAh battery and the great design. But the cheapest I found is 222$ and the ZTE U950 has a quadcore for less money... And then I wonder why not add 77$ and get the Nexus 4? What do you think?

I actually got most prices from Aliexpress. Good to hear it worked fine for you.

Cheers,

Linus X.

I would go for the Jiayu G3. I have one myself and would recommend it. Very nice phone with good build quality and performance. I got mine from uredeal.com

Thanks for the positive feedback on the G3. I read people found it slippery. You don't? Do you get two days of battery life?

Google nexus 4. Great community, the latest androids update, Samsung quality and warranty...

Samsung? It's LG! But the community is definitely a good argument...
