Is there anything out there or has anyone done any work to port nexus Q features to other devices?  I'd like a Q so I can connect it to my stereo then use my handset to queue up music via Play Music, however has you cannot get them anymore I wondered if there is anything else that could do this?  I could connect my N7 to my stereo then if I could use my handset to get it to play that would be great...

Try any old generic upnp app or device, apps like upnplay will let you pick a source and renderer to play it on, so you can take music from your phone or a computer and play it on another phone, PC or even network media player. You could even get something like a raspberry pi and leave that plugged in to you're stereo just for this reason
